Job Title: Technical Manager - Hertfordshire
Department: Operations Reports to: Head of Operations
Contract Type: Full-time - Onsite.
Working Hours: 07:30 - 16:30 (5 days per week, 41.25 hours/week, including 45-minute lunch break)
 
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager to oversee and drive technical excellence across all departments. This role is central to ensuring our products and processes meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and performance.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with the ability to manage cross-functional projects, improve processes, and support both internal and external stakeholders. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires excellent problem-solving, clear communication, and a proactive approach to product development and technical support.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Technical Drawings & CAD Models
• Produce and manage 2D drawings and 3D CAD models to support sales, in-house teams, and external manufacturers.
• Use AutoCAD for customer approvals and production drawings; use Inventor for product development and supplier files.
• Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Create, update, and maintain BOMs to support procurement and manufacturing processes.
• Technical Problem-Solving
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues, including component compatibility, faults, and wiring errors.
• Liaise with suppliers and interpret spec sheets to ensure effective solutions.
• Documentation & Compliance
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical files for all products (Project ALICE).
• Produce installation guides, declarations of conformity, specification sheets, BIM files, LDTs, and STL models.
• Ensure all products comply with UK market regulations and relevant British Standards.
• Product & Process Improvement
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analysing customer feedback, identifying pain points, and collaborating with teams to resolve recurring issues.
• Project Management
• Lead technical projects from concept to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to specification.
• Data Analysis
• Review component specifications, product development data, and sales trends to inform decision-making.
• Part Numbering & Reporting
• Generate and manage part codes for components and assemblies.
• Produce structured reports on product changes, usage, and compliance for regulatory bodies.
• Cross-Functional Support
• Collaborate with sales, operations, procurement, and external partners to provide technical expertise and ensure smooth project delivery.
• Continuous Learning
• Stay current with lighting industry regulations, standards, and technologies, implementing improvements where necessary.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Accuracy and completeness of all technical files (Project ALICE).
• Timely BOM processing and updates.
• Successful delivery of new product development and technical projects.

Required Skills & Experience
Essential:

• 5+ years' experience in Technical Support, Product Development, or Engineering.
• 2+ years within the lighting industry.
• Strong knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).
• Solid understanding of electrical principles relevant to lighting products.
• Ability to manage technical projects and deliver results independently or as part of a team.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise daily tasks effectively.
• Self-motivated, systematic, and resourceful approach.

Desirable:

• Experience developing bespoke or custom product solutions.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator).
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Knowledge of materials and their characteristics in product design.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across teams.
• Flexible mindset with a strong appetite for learning and continuous improvement.

• OGL - Intermediate to Advanced
• Microsoft Office Suite - Intermediate to Advanced
• CAD/Inventor - Intermediate
