We’re back with the AAF crew… again.
And if you’ve been watching from the sidelines, you’ll know that’s a pretty good sign.
Because when we keep coming back to the same team?
It usually means something special is happening behind the scenes.
This one exists because something new just got the green light.
A brand new project.
Fresh investment.
More work. More momentum. More impact.
So yes… this is their third Technical BA hire.
But no… it’s not a copy-paste of the last two.
This is growth. Real, tangible, exciting growth.
About AAF
AAF operates the national authentication infrastructure used by over 1.5 million users across Australian higher education and research.
They sit quietly (but critically) at the centre of Australia’s digital research ecosystem - enabling secure access across universities, research institutes, government, and national infrastructure programs.
Think about that for a second.
Every time a researcher accesses data.
Every time systems connect across organisations.
Every time secure collaboration happens at scale…
AAF is part of the reason it works.
This is identity.
Authentication.
Authorisation.
Trust - designed properly, at scale.
Not the kind of tech most people see.
But absolutely the kind that everything depends on.
They’re backed by national infrastructure programs, deeply embedded in the research landscape, and recognised globally in the Trust & Identity space.
And right now?
They’re in a seriously considered growth phase.
- New projects being approved and funded
- Continued demand across external programs
- Expanding delivery capability across the board
This role is a direct result of that momentum.
The GIG
This is a Technical Business Analyst role sitting within the PMO, reporting into the Manager of the division.
But let’s be clear about the shape of this one…
Yes, there’s discovery involved.
Workshops. Stakeholders. Mapping.
But this is not a “facilitation-only” BA role.
AAF already has strong discovery capability.
What they need now is someone who can carry things forward - into design, into delivery, into the technical detail that actually makes solutions work.
You’ll be sitting across a newly approved project, working closely with internal teams and external collaborators to help bring authentication and authorisation solutions to life.
You’ll be:
- Running discovery workshops and capturing requirements across diverse stakeholder groups
- Mapping current and future state processes (as-is / to-be)
- Translating requirements into structured, usable documentation
- Defining and validating acceptance criteria
- Supporting UAT and coordinating implementation across partner organisations
- Working closely with developers, architects, and technical teams
- Reviewing and validating technical documentation
- Ensuring solutions genuinely align to requirements (not just “tick the box”)
- Representing AAF with collaborators and helping deliver a seamless implementation experience
You’ll move between policy, process, and technical conversations with ease.
You’ll ask better questions.
Challenge assumptions.
Understand the “why” behind the build.
And most importantly…
You’ll help bridge the gap between intent and execution.
What we’re looking for in YOU - 5+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst
- Strong experience working across both discovery and delivery phases
- Confidence working closely with developers, architects, and technical teams
- Proven ability to document requirements, process flows, and acceptance criteria
- Experience running workshops and engaging diverse stakeholder groups
- Comfortable reviewing and validating technical documentation
- Strong SDLC understanding
- Experience with UAT and implementation coordination
Nice to have (but not essential):
- Exposure to Identity & Access Management (IAM)
- Experience in higher education, research, or government environments
- Familiarity with infrastructure or complex system environments
You don’t need to be an engineer.
But you do need to be technically fluent.
Curious.
Comfortable in the detail.
The kind of BA who doesn’t stop at “documented”…
You want to know if it actually works.
PERKS that actually perk! - Work on nationally significant infrastructure that supports research, science, and innovation
- Be part of a newly funded project - real greenfield energy with strong backing
- Cloud-native, modern tech environment (no dusty legacy nightmares here)
- Genuine collaboration with universities, government, and research leaders
- A thoughtful, structured PMO with strong delivery practices
- 35-hour work week that actually respects balance
- Salary sacrifice options + additional leave benefits
- Bonus recharge leave over the Christmas/New Year period
- A genuinely inclusive, purpose-driven culture that values great work
Ready to make your mark on something new?
If you’re a Technical BA who enjoys getting into the detail, shaping solutions, and working on projects that actually matter… this one will feel like a very natural next step.
And if you like the idea of joining a team not because someone left… but because things are growing? Even better.
