If you’re a Business Analyst who enjoys getting into the technical detail - not just facilitating workshops - this one will likely feel like home.
We’re partnering again with the Australian Access Federation (AAF) as they continue to scale their capability in the Trust & Identity space.
And this time?
They’re looking for a BA who leans technical.
About AAF
AAF operates the national authentication infrastructure used by over 1.5 million users across Australian higher education and research.
They sit at the heart of Australia’s digital research ecosystem - trusted by universities, research institutes, government, and national infrastructure programs.
Their work underpins secure access to critical systems, research data, collaboration platforms, and high-value digital resources.
This isn’t generic enterprise IT.
This is identity.
Authentication.
Authorisation.
Trust at scale.
And AAF is a recognised leader in this space.
They’re currently in a strong growth phase:
- Secured runway for new internal projects
- Ongoing external project demand
- Expanding capability across design and delivery
The Role This is a Technical Business Analyst role sitting within the PMO and reporting to the head of the division.
The key difference?
This is not a pure discovery BA role.
The team already has strong discovery capability.
What they need now is someone strong in design and development phases.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Converting requirements into well-defined, structured documentation
- Defining and validating acceptance criteria
- Working closely with developers and architects to ensure designs meet requirements
- Assessing whether proposed technical solutions align to the design brief before build/deployment
- Validating technical documentation
- Ensuring controls (e.g. UAC, MFA, identity flows) genuinely meet requirements
This role requires someone comfortable “getting into the weeds.”
You won’t just document what someone says.
You’ll understand the “why” behind the technical decisions.
You’ll bridge architecture and intent.
The Environment AAF works across Trust & Identity services used by universities and government bodies.
That means:
- Identity & Access Management (IAM) exposure is highly desirable
- Education, research, or government experience is valuable
- Understanding infrastructure concepts helps
- Comfort in technical conversations is essential
They use structured methodologies (4D / Double Diamond style thinking), and strong SDLC discipline matters - but the focus here is design and development execution, not just ideation.
If you’re the kind of BA who enjoys numbered flow diagrams, structured design artefacts, and validating technical logic - you’ll love it here!
What They’re Looking For - 5+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst
- Experience working closely with developers and architects
- Strong documentation skills across requirements, process flows, and acceptance criteria
- Comfortable reviewing and validating technical documentation
- Strong SDLC understanding
- IAM exposure is a huge advantage
- Education, research, or government experience = strong plus
You don’t need to be an engineer.
But you do need to be technically fluent.
