About the role:
The People & Capability Coordinator contributes to the effective delivery of people, recruitment, and workforce processes across the Ministry. The role supports the People & Capability team and wider Ministry by providing accurate, timely coordination and administration, ensuring systems, records, and processes are well maintained and meet legislative and audit requirements.
This is a full‑time, 6‑month fixed‑term role based in Wellington, established to provide additional capacity while an internal secondment is in place. It offers exposure to a wide range of HR and people operations activity within a small, collaborative public sector team.
Your day-to-day work will focus on responding to people-related enquiries, recruitment administration, onboarding and offboarding processes, maintaining HR systems and SharePoint records, and supporting performance and remuneration cycles. You’ll work closely with People Leaders across the Ministry and play a key role in ensuring a positive employee experience and smooth delivery of core people processes.
If you are organised, detail-focused, and enjoy supporting others in a fast-paced environment — while building your experience in public sector HR — this could be a great opportunity for you!
The midpoint of this salary range is $65,844.00. (Band 13) Starting salary will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, however appointments are usually made at or below the midpoint of the band.
- If the permanent position becomes available in the future, it will be advertised separately and filled through a merit‑based process. Appointment to this fixed‑term role does not provide priority or preference for any permanent appointment.
What you’ll bring: Here at our Ministry, we value a diverse range of talents and backgrounds. The skills and experience listed below are a guide rather than a checklist. If you feel you can bring value to the role, we encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every requirement.
Our ideal candidate will bring some or all, of the following skills and experience:
- Experience providing HR, recruitment, and people coordination support, ideally in a fastpaced or public sector environment
- Ability to build effective working relationships and support People Leaders and internal stakeholders with people processes
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise work, and meet deadlines
- High attention to detail and sound judgement when working with confidential and sensitive information
- Experience using HR systems, databases, or Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, SharePoint)
- An interest in people operations and contributing to a positive employee experience
- Respect for Pacific communities and values, and a willingness to build cultural capability
