Water Technology is a specialised water, coastal and environmental consultancy with offices in WA, SA, NT, VIC, NSW, QLD and NZ.
Our Coast and Marine team brings together expertise in coastal hazard assessments, numerical modelling (wave, hydrodynamic, and morphological), coastal and maritime planning, coastal engineering design, environmental services, and coastal management and adaptation planning, although this is not an exhaustive list.
This breadth of capability allows us to deliver integrated solutions across complex coastal environments.
The Role
We are currently seeking a Group Lead, Coasts and Marine (NSW) to join our New South Wales team, based in Parramatta. This is a key leadership role within our national Coast and Marine team. You will work closely with the National Lead, senior leaders, and technical specialists across Australia to continue growing our NSW presence, strengthen client relationships, and lead the delivery of high-quality coastal and marine projects.
The role will suit a Senior Coastal engineer, or Senior Coastal Scientist, who is ready to step into a broader leadership position across technical delivery, team leadership, client engagement, and business development. We are looking for someone with strong consulting experience, sound commercial awareness, and ideally, hands-on knowledge of the NSW coastal and estuarine context. You will bring the technical credibility, leadership capability, and energy needed to grow people, projects, and client relationships..

Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree (Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Coastal/Marine Sciences or similar)
- Postgraduate qualifications in coastal engineering, science, oceanography, or marine science will be viewed favourably, but are not essential
- We would ideally like to see 8-12+ yrs of experience in coastal engineering/science or a related consulting environment.
What you’ll bring We would like to understand if you have demonstrated these capabilities, skills and experience that will help you succeed in this role:
- A strong understanding of coastal, estuarine, and marine processes, particularly along the NSW coastline.
- Experience leading or contributing to coastal management programs, coastal adaptation strategies, coastal hazard studies, or shoreline management project
- Experience undertaking coastal hazard analysis and risk assessments across open coast and estuarine environments
- Working knowledge of coastal numerical modelling (wave, hydrodynamic, morphological, water quality modelling, etc.)
- Project delivery skills in:
- Project management
- Client relationship, stakeholder management, and community consultation
- Preparation of technical reports, design documentation and bespoke studies
- Experience leading, mentoring, and supporting small to medium-sized technical teams – desired but not essential (we would be pleased to support the right candidate grow into this aspect of the role)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, communities, agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams
- A strong interest in business development, and growing a sustainable pipeline of coastal and marine work in NSW
