About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our finance team on an initial 6–8 week engagement, with the potential for extension. This role has been created to support the company's transition towards an audit-ready environment and preparation for future year-end financial audits. The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing the organisation's current state of audit readiness, identifying gaps in financial processes, controls and documentation, and recommending improvements to enhance compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and audit requirements.
This is a broad and hands-on role suited to an individual who enjoys understanding how businesses operate, improving processes, and working across multiple areas of accounting and finance. There is potential for the engagement to be extended to support the implementation of audit readiness initiatives identified during the review.
Key Responsibilities
- Review current finance processes, controls and reporting practices to assess readiness for future audits and compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB).
- Conduct a gap analysis, documenting current state, future state and required actions to establish an audit-ready finance function.
- Review key accounting areas including revenue recognition, leases, fixed assets, accruals, provisions, reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Perform balance sheet and profit and loss analyses to identify accounting issues, compliance gaps and required adjustments.
- Develop and document accounting policies, procedures and position papers where none currently exist, ensuring alignment with AASB requirements and audit expectations.
- Review existing workpapers, reconciliations and supporting documentation, recommending enhancements to support future audit requirements.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls, financial reporting processes and governance frameworks.
- Provide recommendations and a prioritised roadmap to support the company's transition to an audit-ready environment.
Support the Finance Manager with ad hoc financial analysis, process improvement initiatives and ad hoc finance projects as required.
About You We are looking for a
qualified accountant who brings strong technical grounding and a practical, collaborative approach to finance. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, working with operational teams across the business.
- CPA (preferred)
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (essential)
- Proven experience in a similar hands-on accounting role, ideally within a professional services or consulting environment
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes
- Experience with MYOB, exposure to Synergy or similar project-based ERP is advantageous
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organisational skills
- Solid understanding of Australian accounting standards and compliance requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting
- Strong communication skills and comfortable communicating across the business
- Unrestricted work rights in Australia
