Talent-UK are recruiting for a Senior Accounts Payable Officer on behalf of their client to join a family-owned business in the Bradford area on a permanent basis.
 
The Senior Accounts Payable Officer would be responsible for managing the end-to-end accounts payable process, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with internal controls. This role also provides key support to the Management Accountant during month-end, including preparing journals, reconciliations, and other financial tasks.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the full accounts payable cycle from invoice processing to payment runs.
• Ensure accurate coding, matching, and approval of invoices in line with company policies.
• Manage supplier accounts, including statement reconciliations and resolving queries promptly.
• Prepare and process weekly/monthly payment runs.
• Maintain the AP ledger, ensuring completeness and correctness at all times.
• Ensure adherence to internal controls, audit requirements, and financial policies.
• Monitor aged creditors and proactively manage overdue items.
• Maintain supplier master data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with onboarding procedures.

Month-End & Management Accountant Support

• Assist the Management Accountant with preparation and posting of month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments, reclassifications, and timing adjustments.
• Support the month-end close ensuring deadlines are met.
• Assist with preparation of AP-related balance sheet reconciliations (creditors, GRNI, accruals).
• Assist with variance analysis and provide supporting documentation as required.
• Contribute to year-end audit schedules and respond to auditor queries.

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to streamline AP processes and enhance internal controls.
• Support the implementation of new finance systems or upgrades.
• Document AP procedures and maintain up-to-date process guides. 

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with internal departments to resolve invoice or purchasing issues.
• Build strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure smooth operations.
• Provide mentoring or guidance to junior AP staff (if applicable).

Skills & Experience Required

• Proven experience in a Senior Accounts Payable or high-volume AP role.
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes, controls, and best practices.
• Experience supporting month-end close and preparing journals.
• Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems, SAP experience (Business ByDesign) would be an advantage
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas).
• Excellent attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage deadlines and work independently.
• AAT qualification preferred but not required.

• Salary: £32-34K
• Working hours: Mon-Thur 8.30am-5pm & Fri 8.30am-2pm
