An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Tax & Compliance Principal to join a well-established, multidisciplinary professional services firm in Melbourne.
This is a senior leadership position suited to an experienced Tax Manager, Senior Tax Manager, Senior Manager or Tax Director looking to take ownership of complex tax matters while playing a key role in the firm's broader tax governance, compliance and advisory capability.
Working closely with senior leadership and accounting teams across multiple offices, you will become a key technical resource across the business and the main point of contact for significant tax, compliance and ATO matters.
The Role You will take ownership of complex tax and compliance projects from commencement through to completion, combining high-level technical tax work with client leadership, governance and team development.
Key responsibilities will include: - Providing and reviewing specialist advice across Division 7A, trusts, corporate tax, restructures, CGT concessions, succession and exit planning, GST and cross-border matters.
- Leading ATO reviews, audits, objections and disputes, including strategy, evidence, submissions and communication with relevant parties.
- Acting as a senior point of contact for complex private clients, businesses and high-net-worth groups.
- Managing significant tax and advisory engagements, including scope, pricing, resourcing, risk, timing and profitability.
- Strengthening tax-agent governance, risk management, quality assurance and internal compliance frameworks.
- Providing technical guidance and coaching to Managers, Principals and accounting teams across the business.
- Developing practical policies, procedures, templates and controls to ensure consistent standards across the firm.
- Working collaboratively with senior stakeholders across accounting, audit, wealth, lending and other service lines.
About You We are looking for someone who has established themselves as a senior taxation specialist within Australian professional services. Ideally, you will bring:
- Approximately 10–15+ years of Australian taxation experience.
- Current experience at Tax Manager, Senior Tax Manager, Senior Manager or Tax Director level.
- A background within a mid-tier accounting firm or comparable professional services environment with a strong tax advisory practice.
- Extensive exposure to complex private clients, businesses and high-net-worth clients.
- Strong experience across complex tax advisory and ATO reviews, audits, objections and disputes.
- CA or CPA qualification and relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Tax Agent Registration.
- A Master of Taxation, law qualification or other specialist postgraduate tax qualification will be highly regarded.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise and challenge at a senior level.
