Senior Mechanical Engineer / Lead Mechanical Engineer
Mackay, QLD | $130,000 - $180,000 + Super

Join a highly regarded Mackay engineering business delivering major projects across underground mining, bulk materials handling, mineral processing and heavy industrial sectors.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer or Lead Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering team supporting complex project and shutdown work across Queensland mining and industrial operations.

This role is ideally suited to candidates with strong underground mining, longwall, materials handling or heavy industrial project experience who are looking to step into a senior technical leadership position within a well-established and technically capable team.

Projects include underground mining infrastructure, conveyor systems, AFC/BSL equipment, shutdowns, plant upgrades, heavy industrial modifications and large-scale engineering projects for major mining clients.

About the Role
This is a senior-level engineering role offering exposure across the full project lifecycle including:

• Engineering studies & concept development
• Detailed mechanical design
• Shutdown & overhaul support
• Fabrication & installation coordination
• Site inspections & operational support
• Project delivery & technical leadership

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering practical engineering solutions while providing technical guidance across multidisciplinary project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering design activities across mining and heavy industrial projects
• Deliver engineering calculations, technical documentation and design packages
• Support complex shutdown, overhaul and infrastructure projects
• Coordinate with drafting teams, workshops, suppliers and operational personnel
• Attend site inspections, shutdowns, client meetings and technical workshops
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and designers
• Lead engineering reviews and technical decision-making processes
• Ensure designs comply with Australian Standards and client specifications
• Support project delivery within scope, budget and schedule requirements
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and project delivery systems
• Support client relationships and ongoing business growth initiatives

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 7+ years’ experience within mining, underground mining or heavy industrial environments
• Strong experience across project engineering, shutdowns, overhauls or mining infrastructure projects
• Experience with underground mining equipment, longwall systems, AFCs, BSLs or materials handling systems highly regarded
• Strong understanding of fabrication, construction and installation methodologies
• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software
• Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and engineering compliance requirements
• Proven ability to coordinate projects and support multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management capability
• RPEQ highly regarded
