We’re currently seeking an Experienced Accountant to join our dynamic team. This is a pivotal role for someone who thrives on turning data into insight, driving performance, and partnering with clients to help them grow.

About the Role

As an Experienced Accountant at BDO Gisborne, you’ll play a key role in supporting our clients’ success. Ensuring quality service to our clients in line with their tax and compliance accounting, business advisory and management accounting requirements. Support of the group partner’s portfolio and growth of own client portfolio will be achieved through identifying and capitalising on opportunities with both existing and prospective clients and building brand awareness through local and national networks. You’ll work with a diverse range of businesses, helping them understand and improve their financial performance to work towards their goals. You’ll also contribute to our team’s growth by sharing your expertise and supporting continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse management accounts, annual accounts, tax returns, budgets and forecasts for clients.
• Provide clear financial insights and recommendations to support client decision-making.
• Support the implementation and optimisation of accounting systems and processes.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to a positive team culture.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and maintain high-quality work.
• Building and managing client relationships and optimising client care.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Experienced in compliance accounting and/or management accounting and preparation of budgets/forecasts.
• CA, CPA or AT qualified, with a relevant degree.
• Proficient with accounting software, particularly Xero, and appropriate spreadsheeting experience is an advantage.
• Knowledge of NZ accounting standards regime and compliance requirements.
• Analytical and confident communicating financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.
• Curious, collaborative, and committed to continuous learning.
