Waikato Waters is a brand-new, publicly owned water utility bringing together water and wastewater services across the Waikato region — built from the ground up to deliver for communities today and for generations to come. 

Te tūranga | The role
 
We are looking for a Financial Accountant who thrives on responsibility, brings clarity and confidence to complex financial environments, and enjoys shaping how things are done. This is a role with real influence: you'll safeguard our financial integrity, lead essential accounting processes, and help build a finance function that's robust, future‑ready and trusted across the organisation. You'll also guide and grow a small team, helping them shine as we grow.
 
Ō mahi | What you'll do

• Own and lead our financial accounting function, ensuring our financial information is accurate, timely and rock‑solid.
• Drive the general ledger, month‑end and year‑end close processes while setting the standard for consistency and control.
• Manage financial statements, balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, and fixed asset accounting.
• Ensure suppliers are paid correctly and on time, with strong controls and clear oversight.
• Deliver Board, Executive and Management reporting that is trusted, insightful, and tells the story behind the numbers.
• Lead our statutory reporting and audit processes, partnering confidently with external auditors.
• Provide authoritative advice on accounting treatments, risks, and emerging issues.
• Maintain and enhance finance master data; chart of accounts, approval workflows and financial structures.
• Champion smarter systems, cleaner data, and better processes as we build a modern finance environment.
• Lead, mentor and support your team of two by building capability, confidence and care.

Ō pūkenga | What you'll bring

• A CA qualification (or equivalent) with senior post‑qualification experience.
• Deep experience in financial accounting, statutory reporting and audit management.
• Strong command of accounting standards and financial control environments.
• An ability to run month‑end, year‑end and ledger processes with precision and calm.
• Confidence working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Infor).
• Experience leading and developing people because you enjoy seeing others grow.
• A mindset that reflects our values: responsibility, integrity, and respect in all you do.
• Curiosity, improvement‑energy, and the desire to help build something from the ground up
