Waikato Waters is a brand-new, publicly owned water utility bringing together water and wastewater services across the Waikato region — built from the ground up to deliver for communities today and for generations to come.
Te tūranga | The role
As a Finance Business Partner, you will provide executive level strategic commercial insight and analytical support to help Waikato Waters make sound, evidence‑based decisions. These are senior level impact roles where you will act as a trusted financial advisor to leaders across the business, delivering high‑quality commercial advice, financial modelling, forecasting and cost analysis. You will be able to challenge thinking at the executive and leadership level while still being happy in the detail.
We are recruiting for two roles:
- One embedded with Operations supporting the full breadth of Water and Waste Water operations; with the biggest operational spend and most complexity.
- One supporting corporate functions and infrastructure across asset strategy, project planning, design and delivery, of a capital programme of $110mil annually.
Both positions play a pivotal role in strengthening commercial and financial discipline, optimising value and ensuring procurement and investment decisions align with organisational priorities.
Ō mahi | What you’ll do - Act as an embedded senior financial and commercial adviser, providing daily support, strategic insight and constructive commercial advice.
- Translate complex financial and operational data into practical recommendations that drive cost efficiency and organisational value.
- Deliver accurate financial modelling, forecasting, and cost analysis to support operational and investment decision-making.
- Lead the business planning, budgeting and forecasting cycle in conjunction with financial control, ensuring alignment to organisational priorities.
- Identify, assess, and escalate financial and commercial risks, including cost overruns, contract risks, operational issues and spending anomalies.
Ō pūkenga | What you’ll bring - A recognised accounting qualification with robust and senior level commercial experience.
- Proven experience in financial management or business partnering or an equivalent financial analysis role within a complex commercial environment.
- Strong financial modelling, forecasting and analytical capability, highly proficient in Excel or other analytical tools.
- Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to non‑financial audiences at both operational and senior levels.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to identify and assess commercial and financial risks and opportunities.
- Experience in complex environments is essential, utilities, infrastructure, or other regulated environment is desirable.
- A willingness to roll up your sleeves and help the organisation meet its long‑term objectives, with the resilience to navigate uncertainty and adapt as priorities evolve.
