About the Company
Elite Executive is partnering with a respected Indigenous organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Risk & Governance Manager for a temporary assignment based in Cairns.
The organisation plays a significant role in supporting Traditional Owners, communities and stakeholders across Northern Australia. As such, this position requires a highly ethical and culturally aware leader who can balance strategic thinking with operational delivery.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role will provide strategic leadership across organisational risk, governance, compliance, investigations, business resilience and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for a senior professional who can quickly assess current frameworks, strengthen risk management practices and provide practical advice to executive leadership.
Your Responsibilities: - Lead and maintain the organisation's corporate risk framework and risk registers.
- Facilitate enterprise risk assessments, compliance reviews and mitigation strategies.
- Conduct and oversee risk and WHS investigations, including root cause analysis.
- Provide executive advice on governance, risk and organisational resilience.
- Support emergency preparedness, business continuity and organisational readiness.
- Monitor legislative, regulatory and compliance obligations across the organisation.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external advisors and service providers.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and organisational controls.
- Lead business improvement and transformation initiatives that strengthen operational effectiveness.
- Prepare reports, recommendations and briefings for executive leadership.
Skills and Experience Required
To be successful in this role, you will bring significant experience in risk management, governance, compliance or assurance within a complex organisation.
You will demonstrate:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in risk management, governance, WHS or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience managing enterprise and operational risk frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of compliance, governance and organisational assurance practices.
- Experience conducting investigations and applying methodologies such as ICAM and 5 Whys.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Proven ability to lead organisational change and business improvement initiatives
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capability
- Experience working within culturally diverse, community-focused or government environments will be highly regarded
