About the Company

Situated in Northwestern Queensland along the picturesque Gulf of Carpentaria, Carpentaria Shire Council encompasses a vast area of approximately 65,000 square kilometres and services a close knit community of just over 2,000 residents primarily located in Normanton and Karumba. About the Role
Reporting to the Director Engineering, the Asset Manager will provide leadership and strategic oversight across asset management functions, including roads, drainage, buildings, fleet, open spaces and other critical infrastructure assets. The role is responsible for developing and improving asset management systems, ensuring a full lifecycle approach to infrastructure planning, maintenance and renewal.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will contribute to the broader strategic direction of the organisation while ensuring operational performance, compliance and service delivery standards are achieved. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both technical expertise and the ability to work collaboratively across a diverse stakeholder environment.
Your Responsibilities: - Lead the development and implementation of long-term asset management plans across all asset classes.
- Provide strategic advice regarding asset condition monitoring, maintenance and renewal programs.
- Contribute to annual budgets, capital works planning and operational forecasting.
- Ensure asset management principles are embedded into daily operations and project delivery.
- Oversee infrastructure inspections, condition audits and asset data integrity.
- Provide technical support and guidance to operational teams across maintenance and renewal activities.
- Monitor project delivery to ensure works are completed on time, within budget and aligned to operational objectives.
- Support community engagement initiatives and provide clear communication regarding infrastructure and asset related matters.
- Contribute to organisational leadership, risk management and continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience Required - Relevant tertiary qualifications in asset management, engineering, business, finance or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in asset management within local government or a similar infrastructure intensive environment.
- Strong understanding of lifecycle asset management principles and long-term planning.
- Experience managing infrastructure programs, maintenance activities and capital works budgets.
- Strong analytical, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience working with asset management systems, project tracking and data analysis tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, government agencies and community stakeholders.
- Strong leadership capability with the ability to influence, mentor and support operational teams.
