Chief AI officer

Job Description:
The Chief AI Officer (CAIO) is the senior executive responsible for the organization’s overall AI strategy, governance, and implementation, ensuring AI investments translate into measurable business value while remaining safe, ethical, and compliant.  The Chief AI Officer is responsible for defining and executing our enterprise AI strategy, overseeing development and deployment of AI solutions, establishing governance and ethical frameworks, and partnering with executive leadership to ensure AI delivers measurable business outcomes. This role leads cross-functional teams and builds organizational capabilities to safely scale AI across the company.”
Core purpose

• Own the company-wide AI vision and roadmap tightly aligned to business goals such as revenue growth, cost optimization, risk reduction, and customer experience.
• Act as the bridge between technical AI capabilities and non-technical executives, translating between algorithms and outcomes.

Typical responsibilities

• Define AI strategy and prioritize use cases by ROI, feasibility, and risk over a 12–36 month horizon.
• Oversee development and deployment of AI/ML solutions, including platform choices, tooling, and model lifecycle management.
• Establish AI governance, including policies for ethics, fairness, transparency, data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance (e.g., EU AI Act, U.S. AI regulations).
• Build and lead AI teams (data scientists, ML engineers, AI product managers) and drive AI literacy and upskilling across the workforce.
• Integrate AI into products and internal workflows so that deployed solutions are adopted and deliver sustained value, not just pilots.
• Set KPIs for AI initiatives, manage AI budgets, and report on outcomes to the CEO and board.

Skills and profile

• Strong grounding in AI/ML and data platforms, with enough depth to challenge technical teams on architecture and quality.
• Executive-level strategic thinking, change leadership, and communication skills to drive cross-functional transformation.
• Solid understanding of AI risk, regulation, and ethics to design robust guardrails and governance frameworks.
