Provision of an Electronics Maintenance Technical Officer is to carry out fault diagnosis, repair, and verification testing of complex electronic equipment. This position is responsible for fault diagnosis, repair, and verification testing of a variety of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment, with a focus on automated meteorological sensors utilised by the aviation and defence industries, such as ceilometers and present weather sensors.
Mandatory A degree or diploma of an Australian educational institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, which is appropriate to the duties (E.G. Diploma or Associate Diploma of Electronic Engineering); OR other comparable qualifications, which are appropriate to the duties.
A high level of technical understanding and practical experience in the fault-finding maintenance, repair and overhaul of complex electronic and electro-mechanical systems and equipment to the required quality and safety standards. This includes:
Ability to comprehend complex manuals and diagrams and to follow written procedures.
Good mechanical skills, including use of hand tools.
Demonstrated knowledge of high reliability hand soldering techniques.
Demonstrated knowledge of electronic test equipment and related computer software applications as used in an electronics workshop.
Well-developed inter-personal and liaison skills, including the capability to work in a team environment to ensure work programs are met.
Demonstrated personal characteristics of initiative, motivation, and commitment.
Proven capability to solve technical problems and recommend improvements or changes to enhance operational equipment effectiveness. An understanding of the significance of system maintenance and operations would be an advantage.
Excellent written and communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise reports, including use of office computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
A working knowledge and willingness to apply the principles and practices of Occupational Health and Safety and Inclusive Work Practices.
The candidate must state their agreement to have or obtain (at Bureau expense) a baseline security clearance.
