Airport Grounds Person – Hokitika Airport
Full-time, Permanent
Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week
Productive Recruitment, on behalf of Destination Westland, is seeking a motivated and reliable
Airport Grounds Person to join the small, dedicated team at Hokitika Airport.
This role is vital in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the airport through hands-on maintenance, wildlife management, and operational support.
You’ll work closely with the Airport Manager to maintain airside, hangarside, and landside areas, while also supporting compliance with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requirements. From mowing runways to monitoring wildlife, no two days are the same in this unique role.
Key Responsibilities - Maintain airport grounds, including grass, gardens, car parks, and buildings.
- Monitor and manage wildlife to reduce aviation safety risks.
- Conduct equipment, runway, and apron inspections to ensure safety and compliance.
- Support contractors and ensure safe practices in airside environments.
- Assist with asset and facility maintenance, ensuring the airport presents well at all times.
- Contribute to risk management, health and safety practices, and emergency readiness.
- Provide excellent customer service to airport users, contractors, and visitors.
About You We are looking for someone who is practical, proactive, and safety-conscious. The ideal candidate will bring:
- A current NZ driver licence (essential).
- Experience in grounds, turf, or facility maintenance.
- The ability to work flexibly, including weekends and public holidays when required.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- A positive, can-do attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications - NZ firearms licence (for wildlife control).
- Agrichemical handling/storage/application certificate.
- W, T, R driver endorsements.
- Experience in fencing, machinery operation, or general maintenance.
