Director | CHT Care Homes -People and Culture Focus
CHT Care Homes is seeking an experienced Director to join its Board and contribute to the continued strength and sustainability of one of New Zealand’s largest established not-for-profit aged care providers.

For more than 60 years, CHT has been providing quality, affordable care for older people. Today, its  23 care homes provide rest home, hospital, dementia and specialised dementia care, underpinned by a strong commitment to ensuring residents are known, respected and cared for as individuals.

CHT’s focus is simple but important; providing access to affordable, quality care and creating a positive experience for residents, their whānau, its people and the communities it serves.

The opportunity
We are looking for a people-focused governance leader who brings strong commercial judgement alongside a genuine understanding of what creates healthy, high-performing organisations.

You will bring deep People and Culture governance experience, with the ability to contribute at a strategic level across organisational culture, leadership, workforce and capability. Importantly, you will have experience chairing a Remuneration Committee and be comfortable navigating complex remuneration and people decisions with sound judgement and appropriate independence.

Strong emotional intelligence will be critical. You will be a thoughtful and confident decision-maker who listens well, understands different perspectives and is prepared to ask the right questions and make clear calls when required.

We are particularly interested in candidates who bring:

• Senior-level People and Culture / HR expertise
• Previous experience chairing a Remuneration Committee
• Strong governance experience and sound commercial judgement
• High EQ, empathy and an ability to build trusted relationships
• Confidence making considered decisions in complex environments
• A collaborative style combined with the courage to constructively challenge
• Clinical or broader healthcare experience would be an advantage, but is not essential

Commitment and location
The Board meets monthly, with additional committee responsibilities as required. Ideally, the successful candidate will also be available to participate in CHT’s strategy day in December 2026.

Candidates based in the Auckland, Waikato or Bay of Plenty regions are preferred, reflecting CHT’s presence and growing connections across these communities.
