The Opportunity
Like working outdoors, using your hands and seeing the results of what you’ve helped build?

CCGT is looking for a 1st Year Civil Construction Apprentice to join an established civil construction company working across a variety of infrastructure projects on the Central Coast.

The Host Employer has been operating for more than 30 years, delivering civil infrastructure projects for both private and government clients. With different projects, worksites and tasks, this is a great opportunity to build broad experience rather than doing the same thing every day.

You will be employed by Central Coast Group Training (CCGT) and placed with the Host Employer for your day-to-day work. CCGT will support you throughout your apprenticeship while you complete a nationally recognised Certificate III in Civil Construction (General).

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week with an RDO, generally 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday. Overtime may also be available.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing
Your first few months will focus on learning site safety, getting familiar with tools and equipment, understanding how civil sites operate and helping the crew with day-to-day tasks.

As your skills grow, you’ll learn how to:

• Assist with excavation, backfilling and site preparation
• Help with pipelaying and general civil construction work
• Spot machinery and work safely around plant and equipment
• Use hand tools, power tools and construction equipment
• Support tradespeople and plant operators on civil projects
• Assist with signage, fencing and site set-up
• Carry out site clean-up and general labouring
• Take part in toolbox talks and daily safety procedures
• Work across different civil infrastructure projects and locations

This is a physically active role involving outdoor work, manual handling and heavy lifting.

You will not be expected to know everything on day one. The goal is to listen, ask questions, work safely and keep building your skills.

Why This Is a Good Place to Start
You’ll be joining an experienced civil construction business with:

• More than 30 years in the industry
• Exposure to private and government infrastructure projects
• A variety of projects and worksites
• Experience working alongside skilled civil construction crews
• A uniform provided
• A 40-hour working week with an RDO
• Opportunities to build experience across different areas of civil construction
• Regular CCGT support and check-ins throughout your apprenticeship

You’ll receive paid full-time employment, a nationally recognised qualification and on-the-job training while gaining real experience in the civil construction industry.

After your apprenticeship, career pathways may include Civil Construction Worker, Plant Operator, Pipe Layer, Leading Hand or Site Supervisor, depending on the skills and experience you build.

What We’re Looking For
This role could suit you if you:

• Enjoy outdoor, practical and hands-on work
• Have a strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Are willing to learn and take direction
• Can work well as part of a crew
• Are comfortable with physically demanding work
• Are willing to adapt and help with different tasks
• Take workplace safety seriously
• Can work across various sites on the Central Coast
• Hold a current White Card
• Hold a driver’s licence
• Have your own reliable vehicle

School projects, work experience, sport, volunteering, farm work, landscaping, construction experience or other hands-on activities are all worth including in your application.

Pay
This is a paid, full-time apprenticeship. Current first-year apprentice rates are:

• $17.97 per hour, or approximately $682.77 per week for 1st Year Apprentice
• $23.86 per hour, or approximately $906.59 per week for 2nd Year Apprentice
• $28.28 per hour, or approximately $1074.45 per week for 3rd Year Apprentice
