Global Buyer- Prepared Foods
Hybrid: Miami, FL (4 days in office, 1 day work from home)
$100,000 – $150,000 + target 20% bonus /10% equity.
  
WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS
  
A global membership-based warehouse retailer is expanding its Prepared Foods business and is looking for a specialized buyer to own the category across its U.S., Latin American, and Caribbean markets.
This is a unique combination of commercial buying and culinary product development. You’ll help identify and develop new heat-and-eat meals, frozen prepared foods, meal kits, pastas, and similar products — taking ideas from tasting and recipe development through vendor sourcing, negotiation, and launch.
The role requires someone who understands both sides of the equation: how food should taste and how the business needs to perform. You’ll work with suppliers to refine products and formulations while owning cost, margin, inventory, vendor relationships, and category performance across multiple markets.
  
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
  
Category Strategy & Procurement

•  Develop and execute merchandise strategy for the Prepared Foods category in alignment with broader company direction.
•  Negotiate vendor product costs, terms of sale, discounts, freight allowances, return policies, and inventory commitments — all anchored to defined pricing strategy and margin targets.
•  Maintain vendor payment terms at a minimum 45-day weighted average without incurring incremental cost-of-goods penalties.
•  Identify and develop new products and sourcing methods to sustain market competitiveness and drive continuous member satisfaction.
•  Build and manage in-and-out programs to enrich the category where needed.
•  Develop a seasonal item calendar for products with strong seasonal demand patterns.

Inventory & Financial Management

• Monitor and manage inventory replenishment criteria, including bracket pricing review and distribution options, to prevent out-of-stocks and overstock situations.
• Assess current inventory levels, market conditions, availability, and promotional impact to forecast order quantities and provide recommendations to the replenishment team.
• Ensure U.S.-sourced item inventories remain aligned with days-supply budgets and inventory dollar targets.
• Generate, review, and act on daily and weekly reports tracking costs, quality, service levels, inventory turns, and out-of-stock rates.
•  Review slow-moving items and develop corrective action plans to achieve budget.
•  Manage department budget administration efficiently.
• Review annual budgets prior to each fiscal year and submit recommendations to senior leadership where adjustments are warranted.

Vendor & Cross-Functional Relationships

• Conduct a minimum of two formal annual vendor performance reviews to assess results and align on goals for the coming year.
•  Ensure all vendors — new and existing — have executed current vendor agreements.
•  Monitor timely vendor invoice payments.
•  Collaborate with the Vendor Promotions team to secure vendor support for promotional programs.
•  Partner with regional and U.S. merchandising leadership to review and optimize category item plans across all warehouse locations, maintaining pre-determined SKU counts.
•  Ensure a productive working relationship between Buying and Operations; address merchandising notes from field operations in a timely manner.

Market Intelligence & Competitive Awareness

• Oversee the competitive shopping program to ensure the company maintains competitive pricing positioning.
•  Conduct weekly competitive shop reviews per schedule.
•  Visit warehouse locations as needed to monitor program execution, gather in-store feedback, and evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing and upcoming initiatives. .

Item Data Integrity

• Maintain accurate item-level information in the company's inventory management system, including weight, cube, terms, unit pricing, and category codes.

WHAT YOU BRING
  
Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in a management role, preferably within retail or wholesale/club retail environments.
•  Minimum 2 years of purchasing or vendor management experience in retail or a related industry.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to manage vendor relationships across multiple markets.
•  Solid financial acumen: comfortable owning margin, cost, and inventory metrics.
• Excellent analytical skills — you read reports, spot patterns, and act on data.
•  Strong math skills; attention to pricing and cost detail.
•  Effective communicator in both English and Spanish (verbal and written) — this is a bilingual market environment.
• Proficiency in Windows-based systems; experience with legacy ERP/inventory platforms (AS400 or equivalent) a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
•  Exceptional service orientation — toward vendors, internal partners, and end members alike.
• Willingness and ability to travel as required.
