Accountant – Energy Industry (CPA)
Location: The Woodlands, Texas
Type of Work: In Office (Fully Onsite)
Schedule: Monday through Friday, typically 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. 
Type of Contract: Full-Time
Pay Rate $75,000 base salary
 
Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Specialist to support accounting operations across multiple entities within a growing organization in the energy sector. This role reports directly to the Controller and plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and supporting strategic growth initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, hands-on experience in energy-related operations such as gas transportation and gas purchasing, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This position requires both CPA certification and Oracle experience, as the organization is preparing for a system migration from QuickBooks to Oracle to support anticipated expansion.
 
Responsibilities and Duties

• Manage general ledger activities, including preparing and posting journal entries
• Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement reconciliations
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
• Support month-end and year-end close procedures, including preparation of financial reporting packages
• Assist with intercompany accounting and capital project reporting
• Review and approve expense submissions through Expensify, ensuring proper coding and compliance
• Partner with leadership on cash flow analysis, budgeting, and financial planning
• Support ERP transition initiatives from QuickBooks to Oracle
• Maintain audit-ready documentation and ensure adherence to internal controls and GAAP standards

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
• Active CPA certification required
• Proven experience working in the energy industry, specifically with gas transportation and gas purchasing
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and full-cycle accounting
• Demonstrated experience with Oracle (required)
• Proficiency in QuickBooks and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
