CTR are working with a well-established and respected construction business in the Waikato that is looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join its growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their projects and wants to be part of a supportive, down-to-earth business with a strong reputation and a secure pipeline of work.
The role will involve working across a range of smaller to medium-sized commercial construction projects, typically valued between $100,000 and $1.5 million.
Unlike roles focused on one large project, you’ll be managing several projects at different stages, so the ability to prioritise, communicate effectively and keep on top of the commercial details will be important.
The Role Working closely with the wider construction team, you’ll be responsible for the commercial management of projects, from initial estimating and tendering through to final accounts.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing estimates, tenders and cost plans for commercial construction projects.
- Managing the commercial aspects of multiple projects simultaneously.
- Subcontractor procurement, negotiations and contract administration.
- Monitoring project budgets, costs and financial performance.
- Managing variations, progress claims and final accounts.
- Identifying and managing commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Working closely with Project Managers, Site Teams, subcontractors and clients.
- Providing accurate financial reporting and forecasting.
About You We’re looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who is commercially minded, well organised and enjoys being involved in a variety of projects.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- At least 5 years’ Quantity Surveying experience within the New Zealand construction industry.
- Experience in commercial construction, ideally across smaller to medium-sized projects.
- Strong estimating, procurement and contract administration skills.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Good knowledge of NZ construction contracts and commercial processes.
- Strong financial management and reporting skills.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to your work.
Importantly, communication skills are key to this appointment.
You’ll be dealing with a range of people across different projects, so we’re looking for someone who can build relationships, communicate clearly and work collaboratively with the wider team.
You’ll need to be comfortable taking ownership of your workload, while also being happy to pick up the phone, discuss challenges and work through solutions.
What’s on Offer? There’s plenty to like about this opportunity, including:
- Salary of $130,000–$150,000, depending on experience.
- Company vehicle and fuel card.
- Secure pipeline of commercial construction projects.
- A well-established business with a strong regional reputation.
- A supportive, approachable and experienced team.
- Variety of projects rather than being tied to one large development.
- Long-term career stability and opportunities for professional development.
Interested? If you’re an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for a role offering variety, responsibility and a good team environment, I’d be keen to have a chat.
Equally, if you’re currently working on larger projects and would enjoy a change of pace, with the opportunity to manage a portfolio of smaller commercial projects, this could be worth exploring.
