Take the next step in your career—and make the most of life in the South Island.
If you're looking for meaningful project work alongside access to some of New Zealand's best outdoor experiences, this opportunity offers plenty to explore.
An established cost consultancy is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Quantity Surveyor to support civil infrastructure projects across the South Island. With work spanning water, rail and ports, this is an opportunity to broaden your experience and contribute to infrastructure that keeps communities connected and supports regional growth.
You could be based in Christchurch or Queenstown, with the potential to work across both locations.
The opportunity
This role will suit someone who enjoys getting into the detail, building strong client relationships and seeing how their advice influences project decisions.
You'll work closely with clients, consultants and delivery teams, bringing clear commercial thinking to technically varied civil projects. Depending on your experience, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing estimates, budgets and cost plans to support informed decisions.
- Advising on procurement and evaluating tenders.
- Managing valuations, variations and ongoing cost reporting.
- Identifying commercial risks and recommending practical solutions.
- Developing trusted relationships with clients and project teams.
For an Intermediate QS, the role offers scope to build your technical capability and take on greater project responsibility. At Senior level, you'll bring confidence in managing commissions, advising clients and supporting less experienced colleagues.
A location that fits your life:
Christchurch combines the opportunities and amenities of a growing city with easy access to the outdoors. From a ride in the Port Hills or a surf at Sumner to weekends exploring Canterbury's mountains and ski fields, there's plenty to do beyond the working week.
Queenstown puts you close to mountain biking, hiking, skiing and time on the lake. Whether you already call the region home or are considering a move, it's a chance to develop your career in a setting that offers something different each season.
The position may involve supporting projects across both regions. Your preferred base and any travel expectations will be discussed openly during the recruitment process.
What you'll bring
You'll be a capable Quantity Surveyor who takes pride in your work and enjoys being part of a collaborative team. Ideally, you'll have:
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Experience in civil infrastructure, particularly water, rail, ports or comparable projects.
- Strong cost management skills and sound commercial judgement.
- The confidence to communicate clearly with clients and project stakeholders.
- A practical approach to solving problems and managing competing priorities.
- The ambition to keep developing your expertise and take ownership of your work.
Experience gained in either a consultancy or contractor environment will be considered.
Ready for your next move?
Whether you're looking for greater responsibility, a broader mix of infrastructure projects or a move to the South Island, we'd welcome a confidential conversation.
