An exciting opportunity has become available for a Passive Fire Engineer to join a growing and well-respected specialist consultancy operating across the Auckland market.
This position offers the chance to work across a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, healthcare, residential, and infrastructure projects while playing a key role in delivering practical and compliant fire engineering solutions.

The Role
You will be responsible for delivering passive fire engineering services across both new and existing buildings, providing technical advice, site inspections, compliance assessments, and construction monitoring.
This is a varied role that will see you working closely with clients, contractors, architects, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure projects meet New Zealand Building Code requirements while remaining commercially and practically achievable.
Key Responsibilities Passive Fire Design & Compliance
- Prepare Passive Fire Specifications and supporting documentation
- Review architectural and services drawings to identify passive fire requirements
- Assess fire-rated systems and penetration sealing requirements
- Develop practical remediation and compliance solutions for existing buildings
- Prepare Engineering Judgements (EJs) and compliance assessments
- Assist with Building Consent documentation and compliance pathways
Site Inspections & Construction Monitoring - Undertake onsite inspections and QA reviews of passive fire installations
- Monitor fire stopping and fire-rated construction systems
- Prepare site inspection reports and defect lists
- Issue Producer Statements (PS4) where applicable
- Work collaboratively with contractors to resolve installation issues onsite
Technical Advice & Stakeholder Management - Provide advice relating to NZ Building Code compliance, fire-rated systems, and existing building upgrades
- Liaise with BCAs, FENZ, architects, contractors, and consultants
- Attend project coordination and design meetings
- Assist with project delivery, client management, and business development opportunities
What We’re Looking For - Experience within passive fire engineering, construction, compliance, or building consultancy
- Strong understanding of passive fire systems and NZ Building Code requirements
- Knowledge of tested systems and industry standards including AS1530.4 and AS4072.1
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- A practical and solutions-focused mindset
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
Desired Background - Qualification in Fire Engineering, Building Surveying, Construction, Engineering, or a related field
- Site inspection and reporting experience highly regarded
- Experience working within consulting, compliance, or specialist subcontractor environments beneficial
