About the Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced HSE Specialist to join our growing Health, Safety and Environment team.
Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will play a key role in shaping and strengthening EPEC's health, safety and environmental systems, governance frameworks, risk management practices, and compliance programs across the business.
This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive HSE professional who enjoys balancing strategy with hands-on operational support while working closely with stakeholders across both corporate and project environments.
This role will involve occasional travel to project sites across Australia.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environment Systems
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EPEC's integrated HSE Management System.
- Develop and maintain HSE policies, procedures, standards, and project-specific documentation.
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, ISO standards, and Federal Safety Commissioner requirements.
- Monitor HSE performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support project teams with HSE planning and compliance requirements.
Risk, Compliance & Governance
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis activities.
- Develop and implement risk management and compliance strategies.
- Facilitate risk assessments, workshops, audits, and reviews.
- Monitor and communicate legislative and regulatory changes.
- Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Provide HSE input into tenders, contracts, and project mobilisation activities.
- Prepare governance and compliance reporting for leadership teams.
Training & Capability Development
- Conduct training needs analyses and competency reviews.
- Design and deliver HSE training programs.
- Develop awareness campaigns, training materials, and resources.
- Support ongoing development of a positive and proactive safety culture.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with operational leaders, project teams, and external stakeholders.
- Provide practical HSE advice and support.
- Coach and influence leaders and employees in risk management and safe work practices.
- Promote accountability and engagement across all levels of the organisation.
ESG & Sustainability
- Support EPEC's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) objectives.
- Promote sustainable and responsible business practices.
- Contribute to ESG initiatives and reporting activities.
About You You are an experienced HSE professional who enjoys working in dynamic project environments and building strong relationships across diverse teams.
You bring a practical, solution-focused approach, strong technical knowledge, and a genuine passion for creating safer workplaces.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years' HSE experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities, mining, energy, or industrial sectors.
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41419) or higher.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122).
- General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Experience working in high-risk operational environments.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining management systems aligned to:
- ISO 45001
- ISO 14001
- ISO 9001
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience in:
- Risk management and risk assessments
- Incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Internal and external audits
- Compliance and governance reporting
- System development and continuous improvement
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Office and HSE systems experience.
Desirable
- MSMPER300 – Issue Work Permits.
- Lead Auditor qualification.
- NEBOSH certification.
- Incident Investigation qualifications.
- Environmental Management qualifications.
- Drug and Alcohol Testing certification.
- Experience across multiple Australian jurisdictions.
- Exposure to renewable energy, transmission, substations, utilities, or major infrastructure projects.
