About The Role

An opportunity exists for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our client’s Technical Services team. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will provide critical geotechnical support to help manage and improve operations for this highly productive underground coal operation, producing medium volatile coking coal located in Central Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

The opportunity exists to be based Residential, Drive in Drive out or Fly in Fly out in a thriving rural township offering schooling, shops, golf course, swimming pool, boating, fishing, camping, local sports clubs and health facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish & implement the strata management plan
• Provide technical advice in relation to critical risks - Geotechnical monitoring, Mine design & Ground support design
• Routine underground inspections of both Development & Longwall 
• Mapping ground conditions & support installations
• Geotechnical data collection, validation, analysis & database management
• Design, planning, implementation & review of ground control strategies
• Apply risk management principles to all on-site activities
• Actively investigate enhancements to strata management standards, procedures & processes for continuous improvement
• Routinely participate in departmental audits, observations & safety inspections 
• Liaise with external consultants & directly supervise contractor’s onsite

About you
The successful candidate will possess the following:

• Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Mining Engineering
• Proficient in geotechnical analysis software
• Underground Geotechnical experience 3-5 years
• In-depth knowledge of rock mechanics, geotechnical engineering & lithological assessment
• Proven ability to liaise technical information between departments
