SEC is building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria’s transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria’s renewable energy target of 95% by 2035. We are working together for renewable, affordable, reliable energy for all Victorians.
Your role
As a People & Culture Business Partner, you'll be a trusted advisor to senior leaders, partnering with them to shape high performing, engaged, and inclusive teams. Working as part of a collaborative People & Culture team, you'll provide strategic and operational HR support across the full employee lifecycle—from workforce planning, organisational design, leadership coaching, and talent initiatives through to managing complex employee relations matters. You'll also play a key role in driving people-focused change, delivering core P&C programs, and acting as SEC's subject matter expert on our Enterprise Agreement, helping leaders confidently navigate industrial and employment matters.
This is an opportunity for an experienced HR professional who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You'll build strong relationships across the business, coach leaders through complex people challenges, partner with unions and employee representatives, and contribute to the continuous evolution of our People & Culture function. This is a 18-month fixed term contract.
This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.
What you will do:
Some of the core accountabilities include:
Strategic Partnership
- Partner across the business with our people leaders to implement SEC’s people strategy and priorities within business units
- Provide expert, trusted advice, coaching and counsel to leaders to support their business objectives, foster a positive workplace culture and uplift their personal leadership effectiveness.
- Work with other P&C team members to design, deliver and evaluate workforce and talent programs to deliver to business and people objectives
- Partner with leaders to enable psychologically safe, healthy and inclusive teams.
- Partner with leaders to identify emerging people issues, trends and embed preventative initiatives.
- Develop and maintain constructive relationships with relevant unions and employee representatives by representing the SEC in operational consultation and engagement activities
Effective management of people issues and cases - Partner with leaders to manage complex, high risk and sensitive people issues
- Provide advice and guidances to people leaders on ER matters, including performance management, conduct, grievances, investigations and disciplinary processes to ensure compliance with legislation, policy and SEC values
- Upskill leadership capability to recognise, respond to and manage common people issues
Delivery of P&C services into the business - Lead Enterprise Agreement (EA) interpretation and issue management, as subject matter expert for SEC
- Lead and deliver EA communication and education across SEC
- Build ER/IR leadership capability through practical guidance, tools and education across core people management activities.
Who you are:
Experiences and Skills:
Must Have: - Demonstrated experience interpreting industrial instruments, supporting consultation processes and building constructive relationships with unions and employee representatives.
- High/low thinking: Ability to take a ‘whole of system’ view and be ‘on the tools’ as needed
- Experience as a P&C BP to senior leaders and executives, providing strategic and practical support
- Exposure and experience within EA environments
- Experience coaching and guiding leaders on a broad range of complex and sensitive employee relations matters
- Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and influencing skills at all levels
- Excellent people leadership skills to align, develop and motivate a team of employees.
Highly Desirable: - Understanding of psychosocial health and safety obligations and their practical application within people leadership
Qualifications: - Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Law or a related discipline is highly desirable.

The organisation is partnering with industry to transform the energy sector, opening the state up for further innovation and investments in renewables. This includes an initial $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects – the equivalent replacement capacity of coal-fired power station Loy Yang A, which is set to close in 2035.
SEC will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.
The energy transformation will create thousands of jobs. SEC will play a role in attracting and training our future renewable energy workforce.
