The SEC is building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria's transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria's renewable energy target of 95% by 2035. We are working together for renewable, affordable, reliable energy for all Victorians.
Your role
This is a newly created Head of Asset Operations role within a rapidly growing organisation, offering a unique opportunity to shape the operational future of SEC's renewable generation and storage portfolio. You will set the foundations, establishing the systems, processes and ways of working, that will support a substantial runway of future asset development.
Working closely with teams across Asset Development, Investment and Delivery, you will ensure new assets are operationally ready and that existing assets meet performance, safety and compliance expectations. You will also engage with service providers, regulators, government partners, First Peoples and local communities to ensure SEC's assets operate reliably and deliver meaningful benefits where they matter most.
This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.
Core accountabilities include:
- Lead asset operations across SEC's renewable generation and storage portfolio, ensuring safe and commercial outcomes.
- Provide strong leadership, building a capable team and driving operational excellence in a complex, high-risk environment.
- Set and execute the asset management strategy to maximise availability, life-cycle performance, including oversight of service providers and planned outages.
- Drive portfolio performance through data-led insights, continuous improvement and clear reporting across HSE, availability and generation.
- Oversee regulatory and technical compliance including safety, environmental, SOCI ACT and NER obligations (operational, GPS, system procedures and protocols).
- Build strong relationships with service providers, regulators, government agencies, industry bodies and local communities.
- Deliver high quality reporting across HSE, availability, production, BESS degradation, risk and operational readiness.
- Strengthen partnerships with First Nations communities, supporting cultural outcomes and self-determination.
Who you are: Experiences and Skills: Must Have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering or related field.
- Proven experience in managing the operations of energy generation and storage assets within a regulated or commercially driven environment.
- Extensive experience in asset management methodologies, contract administration and meeting regulatory requirements in the renewable energy sector.
- Deep understanding of the National Electricity Rules (NER), market operator - AEMO (VicGrid) procedures and requirements relevant to operating renewable generation and storage assets.
- Experience managing GPS compliance, FCAS registration/verification, metering obligations, and coordination with network service providers and AEMO.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Experience in best practice management of assets including meeting local content targets, conducting social procurement, respectful Traditional Owner engagement, and successful community engagement.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Highly Desirable: - Strong understanding of government policies related to energy infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing multiple renewable energy technologies - wind, solar and grid-scale batteries.
- Be Certified in Asset Management through the Asset Management Council of Australia.

This includes an initial $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects - the equivalent replacement capacity of coal-fired power station Loy Yang A, which is set to close in 2035.
The SEC will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.
