The SEC is building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria's transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria's renewable energy target of 95% by 2035. We are working together for renewable, affordable, reliable energy for all Victorians.
Your role
As a First Peoples Business Partner at the SEC, you will play a pivotal role in bringing our commitment to First Peoples self-determination, Traditional Owner engagement, and benefit-sharing to life across the organisation.
Working in closely with the First Peoples Partnership Lead and the Strategy, Performance and People team, you will enable business units to meaningfully implement the SEC's First Peoples Self-Determination Strategy and Traditional Owner relationship principles. You will also lead and support initiatives that create genuine, lasting opportunities for First Peoples and Traditional Owners across Victoria.
This is a purpose-driven role where your expertise will influence strategy, shape organisational practice, and help build respectful, enduring partnerships that deliver shared value.
This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.

What you will do:
Core accountabilities include:
- First Peoples relationships - support and maintain positive relationships with Traditional Owner Corporations, First Peoples Assembly of Victoria and the Victorian Aboriginal community to support the SEC to build a renewed relationship with First Peoples. Support and enable other SEC employees to develop constructive relationships through culturally informed engagement.
- Policy development and coordination - support the development of policies, initiatives and strategies that deliver on our commitment to partner with First Peoples, and ensure the SEC remains coordinated with relevant stakeholders who engage with First Peoples on the energy transition.
- Project planning - support the strategic delivery of time critical and complex self-determining programs, projects, and advice that delivers on the SEC's commitment to partnership with First Peoples. Support and contribute to providing clear and timely advice on delivery of the SEC's commitments.
- First Peoples opportunity creation - identify and drive opportunities that guide the SEC towards creating opportunities for First Peoples in Victoria and influence organisational practices to better support these objectives.
Who you are: Experiences and Skills:
Must Have: - Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Victorian Aboriginal cultures and communities including Traditional Owner groups and the ability to communicate effectively with First peoples.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, and work in a supportive and collegial manner.
- Experience in supporting or leading strategic policy and program development.
- Ability to design, influence and deliver outcomes in support of business priorities.
- Experience in preparing high-level written reports and submissions.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor client and stakeholder expectations and effectively manage stakeholder issues.
- Demonstrated ability to apply initiative and innovation to work activities.
Highly Desirable: - Experience working effectively with Traditional Owner groups and the Victorian Aboriginal Community and ability to strengthen and build relationships and partnerships.
- Prior experience working in the energy sector.

The organisation is partnering with industry to transform the energy sector, opening the state up for further innovation and investments in renewables. This includes an initial $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects - the equivalent replacement capacity of coal-fired power station Loy Yang A, which is set to close in 2035.
The SEC will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.
The energy transformation will create thousands of jobs. The SEC will play a role in attracting and training our future renewable energy workforce.
