Do work that makes a difference The SEC is building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria's transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria's renewable energy target of 95% by 2035. We are working together for renewable, affordable, reliable energy for all Victorians.
Your role As a
Financial Modeller, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining financial models using your deep modelling knowledge for both CAPEX and OPEX and assisting the wider Finance team in analysing and interpreting these models.
This role can be based in either our
Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in
Morwell.
What you will do: Core accountabilities include:
Financial Modelling - Lead the development and maintenance of the company's corporate financial model, ensuring accuracy and relevance in reflecting the financial landscape.
- Build or enhance individual business unit financial models as needed, ensuring compatibility and alignment with the broader corporate financial model.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to gather essential data inputs and assumptions, fostering collaboration and shared ownership.
- Prepare clear, high-quality financial outputs—including financial statements—for presentation to the Board of Directors, senior management, and external stakeholders.
Projection & Reporting - Provide regular reporting on the company's future projections based on the corporate financial model, offering insights and analysis that support strategic decision-making.
- Conduct variance analysis to measure the accuracy of projections against actual performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Stay across industry best practices and emerging trends in financial modelling to keep our approach modern, robust, and effective.
- Assess and report on cash flow, financial risk, and the impact of potential capital investment projects.
- Support projections and analysis of operating costs, income, and expenditure across the organisation.
Team Collaboration & Support - Work closely with team members to ensure financial modelling activities are aligned with wider organisational goals and strategies.
- Contribute to the formulation and continuous improvement of budgetary and accounting policies.
- Share knowledge, provide guidance, and support colleagues—helping build a collaborative and learning-focused team culture.
High-Profile Projects - Play an active role in high-profile and sensitive projects by contributing financial modeling expertise to deliver successful outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensuring project objectives are achieved on time and to a high standard.
Who you are Experiences and Skills Must Have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in financial modelling with a focus on CAPEX and OPEX.
- Experience within the energy sector, preferably renewable energy.
- Advanced Excel skills, including experience with complex formulas and functions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Collaborative attitude with a willingness to work closely with cross-functional teams.
Highly Desirable: - Industry Knowledge: Understanding of energy industry financial considerations.
