Do work that makes a difference The SEC is building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria's transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria's renewable energy target of 95% by 2035. We are working together for renewable, affordable, reliable energy for all Victorians.
Your role As a
Sustainability Adviser at the SEC, you will play a key role in embedding sustainable practices across the organisation. You'll support the development of systems and processes to track, measure, and report on sustainability metrics and targets, while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements - including the recently introduced standards from the Australian Accounting Standards Board. Your work will help shape SEC's sustainability journey and create meaningful impact for our people, partners, and communities.
This role can be based in either our
Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in
Morwell.
What you will do: - Design and recommend systems and processes for the collection and reporting of sustainability data.
- Lead the coordination, analysis, and verification of sustainability information from multiple sources, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Establish strong foundations for sustainability reporting tailored to SEC's operations and business environment.
- Develop and implement sustainability strategies and action plans that align with organisational goals.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental legislation and industry standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulators, government bodies, and suppliers.
- Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, and proposals to communicate sustainability initiatives and outcomes.
Who you are: Must Have: - Demonstrated experience in a similar role or related field, with a track record of successfully delivering and implementing sustainability frameworks.
- Strong understanding of ESG reporting standards, regulatory requirements, and sustainability frameworks, including emissions reporting.
- Proven ability to manage data, lead projects, and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ESG concepts into clear, compelling narratives.
- Highly organised with excellent time management, strong stakeholder engagement capabilities, and an analytical mindset with experience in data interpretation and reporting.
Highly Desirable: - Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, natural resources, environmental management or a related discipline

The organisation is partnering with industry to transform the energy sector, opening the state up for further innovation and investments in renewables. This includes an initial $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects - the equivalent replacement capacity of coal-fired power station Loy Yang A, which is set to close in 2035.
The SEC will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.
