Your role  
 
As a Stakeholder and Industry Engagement Manager, you’ll be at the heart of how SEC connects with government, industry, and community to accelerate Victoria’s energy transition. Sitting within our Brand and Corporate Affairs team, you’ll play a key role in building strategic relationships and leading advocacy initiatives that position SEC as a trusted, solutions-focused leader. You’ll work closely with our Board and executive team to influence reform, amplify our impact, and help deliver a more sustainable and inclusive energy future for all Victorians. 
 
This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.  
 
What you will do:  

• Lead the development and execution of SEC’s policy and advocacy strategy, including messaging, content, and coordinated responses to regulatory and policy change processes, aligned with SEC’s mandate and strategic interests. 
• Partner with the Strategy and Performance team to establish clear criteria for SEC’s policy agenda, identify relevant regulatory processes, develop effective advocacy strategies, and lead submission drafting in collaboration with subject matter experts. 
• Design and implement SEC’s stakeholder engagement strategy and framework, identifying key industry leaders and policymakers, mapping opportunities for engagement, and creating a 6-month rolling engagement calendar for the Board, CEO, and senior executives. 
• Develop robust briefing, reporting, and insight-tracking practices, ensuring stakeholder intelligence is captured and analysed to identify emerging risks and opportunities, with follow-up actions implemented in a timely manner. 
• Monitor the external policy and industry landscape, collaborating with business units to develop aligned messaging, external statements, or submissions; manage corporate memberships to support advocacy goals and strengthen stakeholder relationships across government and industry. 
• Support SEC’s external presence and internal alignment, contributing to core communication assets (e.g. master message book, presentations), tracking stakeholder influence metrics, and leveraging conferences, sponsorships, and events to elevate SEC’s profile and advocacy efforts. 

 
Who you are:  
Must Have 

• Professional experience and/or qualifications in policy development, industry or government relations, communications, with strong exposure to issues management and navigating complex industries. 
• Extensive experience in stakeholder, industry, or government relations, building and maintaining productive, trusted professional relationships. 
• Proven ability to deliver high-impact projects within fast-paced, high-performing teams, demonstrating strong strategic thinking, execution skills, and a commercial mindset aligned to organisational goals. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong capacity to influence diverse stakeholders and articulate technical information clearly. 
• Proactive, responsive leadership style — a self-starter who builds trust and credibility at all levels with a purpose-driven, collaborative approach. 
• A demonstrated commitment to cultural safety, fostering inclusive environments where all people feel safe, respected, and valued. 

 
 
Highly Desirable 
 

• Exposure to the energy sector, with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the energy transition, including familiarity with Victoria’s energy market and policy environment. 
• Experience working within government or regulated industries, with knowledge of sustainability frameworks, climate policy initiatives, and engagement with First Nations communities applying reconciliation principles. 
• Strong project management skills, including coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives to deliver collaborative outcomes. 
• Ability to leverage digital engagement platforms and social media to enhance advocacy and stakeholder engagement efforts.

The organisation is partnering with industry to transform the energy sector, opening the state up for further innovation and investments in renewables. This includes an initial $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects – the equivalent replacement capacity of coal-fired power station Loy Yang A, which is set to close in 2035.  
 
The SEC will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.  
 
The energy transformation will create thousands of jobs. The SEC will play a role in attracting and training our future renewable energy workforce.
