In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with our risk and credit policies, monitoring the performance of our wholesale energy portfolio, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of our Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system.
Working closely with teams across the organisation, you’ll analyse a range of market scenarios, report on SEC’s risk position, and support the settlement function to ensure we operate within our defined risk limits.
You’ll also be involved in assessing the impact of innovative energy products on our portfolio risk profile.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working collaboratively, and contributing to a positive, forward-thinking risk culture.
This role can be based in either our

- Credit & Trading Controls: Monitor counterparty credit risk, trader authority, and ensure compliance with credit and trading policies and regulatory requirements.
- Environmental Certificates: Track and report on environmental certificate positions, and support reconciliation processes with relevant registries.
- Risk Modelling & Policy Compliance: Contribute to the development of market risk models and assist in maintaining SEC’s market risk and counterparty credit risk policies.
- Data & Systems Integration: Work with the IT data team to build strong data structures that support fast, reliable risk analysis.
Who you are: Experiences and Skills: Must Have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
- A solid understanding of energy markets and environmental certificate markets, both physical and financial.
- Experience in energy markets, ideally within a middle office function at a generator or retailer.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, structured approach to finding solutions for SEC and our customers.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work closely with other teams to develop effective joint solutions.
- Confidence working with large datasets and experience using Excel, Power BI, or similar reporting tools to structure analysis and reporting.
- A natural alignment to SEC’s ways of working — focused on customers, driven by continuous improvement, and ready to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

- Exposure to renewable energy and battery storage, especially within a generator-retailer (gentailer) business model.
- Sound finance and accounting knowledge to understand impacts on profit and loss, cash flow, and balance sheets.
- Familiarity with AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator) requirements and procedures for generators and retailers.
