Your role As a
Pricing & Energy Market Analyst in the
Energy Markets Analytics team at the SEC, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining our transfer pricing capability, supporting the retail team by generating competitive pricing for SEC’s C&I customer base. You will ensure pricing models and tools remain aligned with SEC’s risk frameworks and transfer pricing methodology.
In this role, you’ll also deliver valuable analysis, insights, and advice to support key decision-making across the organisation’s market-facing functions, including wholesale market operations and energy retailing for C&I customers. Using your expert market knowledge and strong analytical skills, you’ll assess market trends, customer energy demand patterns, and retail cost drivers to develop sustainable, customer-centric pricing models.
You will further contribute to the development of robust analytical tools and systems, enabling data-driven insights that support key initiatives across the organisation.
This role can be based in either our
Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in
Morwell.
What you will do: - Retail Pricing and Execution: Lead detailed pricing analysis for existing and prospective customers, generate transfer prices, maintain the customer pricing tool, validate retail pricing contracts, and develop tailored pricing options based on load profiles and forecasts.
- Pricing Strategy Development: Support the design and continuous improvement of pricing strategies for renewable energy products, including retail agreements, power purchase agreements, flexible demand response offerings, and time-of-use pricing.
- Market Modelling and Forecasting: Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of market modelling and forecasting tools, including short-term probabilistic forecasts and asset dispatch optimisation models, ensuring outputs are accessible and valuable across the organisation.
- Market, Regulatory, and Competitor Analysis: Conduct ongoing research and analysis of market trends, customer demand, competitor offerings, and regulatory changes to inform C&I retail strategies and maintain a market-leading perspective.
- Data Management and Visualisation: Work to improve the organisation, interpretation, and visualisation of market data from sources such as AEMO, ASX Energy Futures, and the SEC’s internal systems, supporting portfolio analytics and broader business initiatives.
Who you are: Must Have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
- Tertiary qualifications (honours or advanced desirable) in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Finance and/or other relevant specialisation;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience (3+ years) in the Australian energy market, particularly regarding C&I pricing, energy retailing, the operation of wholesale markets, renewable energy assets, financial markets, and trading systems;
- Numerical and computing skills to support the development of accessible analytical and reporting tools including Advanced Excel, PowerBI, and/or Tableau;
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to collaboratively interpret data and modelling outputs and produce and distribute meaningful insights across the organisation;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to explain complex technical details to non-technical stakeholders;
- Aligned to the SEC ways of working and cultural behaviours, with an unwavering customer focus, striving for continuous improvement, and demonstrating a proactive can-do, attitude in what is a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Highly Desirable: - Proficient in programming languages for data processing and workflow development, with a preference for Python, R, and/or SQL.
- Understanding of Victorian Government energy policies, targets, and initiatives, with a genuine interest in supporting the state’s renewable energy transition.
