Your role As
C&I Product Owner, you will lead the development and deployment of innovative renewable energy products tailored for the C&I sector, including Victorian government customers. This role is crucial in shaping our renewable energy offerings and market presence, ensuring our products and services align with SEC’s strategy to enable the transition to renewable energy, and meet customer and regulatory requirements.
The initial focus of the role will be on supporting establishment of the SEC’s product governance framework, successfully developing and launching the SEC’s first structured retail product and supporting the development and launch of Behind-the-Meter products.
This role can be based in Melbourne or Morwell. What you will do: Core accountabilities include:
- Support the execution of the product strategy and roadmap, by owning the full lifecycle for renewable energy products and solutions targeting C&I customers.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams for product development, which may include engineering, accounts management, legal, marketing & communications, and operations, to develop and launch innovative energy products such as Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), behind-the-meter solar and battery storage, and energy management services.
- Collaborate with the Sales and Service team to create compelling value propositions and go-to-market strategies for identified target markets and segments, and providing commercial support for contracting.
- Work with partners and stakeholders to conduct market research, customer needs analysis, and competitor benchmarking to identify opportunities for innovative products that close the gap on renewable energy uptake.
- Ensure all products comply with Australian, Victorian and any other relevant energy regulations.
- Work closely with technology/software development teams to integrate digital platforms, smart grid technologies, and IoT solutions into energy offerings.
- Drive continuous product integration for improvement based on customer feedback, performance metrics, and emerging industry trends.
- Manage product development budgets, timelines, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure successful delivery.
- Champion and evolve the product development framework and promote agile delivery approaches across the broader organisation in lock step with the Customer Energy Solutions team by sharing innovation processes and ways of working.
Who you are: Must Have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
- Proven experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar role in the renewable energy, electricity retail, or sustainability sector.
- Strong commercial contracting capability, able to work with legal and customers to build robust, customer-centric contracts for products.
- Strong knowledge of structured renewable energy contracts, including solar, wind, battery storage, and energy efficiency solutions.
- Experience in developing and managing energy-as-a-service offerings, PPAs, VPPs, or similar commercial energy products.
- Demonstrate an agile mindset with a pragmatic approach to organisation, planning and product implementation.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams from internal stakeholders, regulatory bodies, industry partners and customers effectively.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
Highly Desirable - Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively through activities such as journey mapping, issues identification and resolution, brainstorming, requirements gathering, and project planning.
- Strong project management skills, with experience in Agile methodologies being highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret market data, financial models, and technical specifications.
- High energy, can-do attitude with a strong sense of ownership and desire to succeed.
- MBA or equivalent qualification is a plus.
