Your role As
Structured Deals Manager, you will be responsible for negotiating and managing structured long-term PPAs and offtake agreements with renewable generation and storage projects. The immediate focus of this role will be on the seamless integration and operation of PPAs into the SEC energy portfolio. The role will also lead development and pricing of bespoke and innovative products to support the growth of our Customer business. You will work closely alongside others in the Trading team across the short to medium term energy strategy to form a holistic view and management of the wholesale portfolio across contracts, generation and customer load.
This role can be based in Melbourne or Morwell. What you will do: Core accountabilities include:
- Contract management – manage all PPA and offtake agreements, being the main contact point for SEC Energy Markets across all commercial terms.
- Commercial acumen – work closely with SEC Assets team to provide guidance and assessment on preferred project selection. Identify offtake opportunities from new renewable generation and battery development projects in Victoria for competitive offtakes that align with SEC’s mandate and complements the wholesale energy market portfolio.
- Negotiation and execution – lead negotiation of structured long-term PPAs and offtake agreements on behalf of the Energy Markets team, working collaboratively with the Assets team to deliver new project opportunities.
- Innovation and pricing – work closely with the Customer team to support development of structured retail products including approach on transfer pricing as well as management of wholesale market risk.
- Build relationships – establish and nurture relationships with external counterparties including project proponents, developers, market brokers as appropriate.
- Internal collaboration – work with key internal stakeholders including Assets, Market Risk, Finance, Legal as well as the broader Trading and Energy Markets team.
- Market insight – keep abreast of market development across renewable and storage projects as well as renewable products in the C&I customer space.
- Management reporting – prepare regular and ad hoc reports as required by the business.
Who you are: Must Have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
- Commercial acumen with track record of successfully negotiating and closing complex structured commercial agreements with a particular focus on renewable PPAs.
- Experience in pricing structured deals or financial or economic models.
- Deep understanding of renewable energy market in generation and storage in the NEM and specifically in Victoria, key players, major project pipeline.
- Working knowledge of electricity derivatives and environmental markets in Australia.
- Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills with ability to build and grow strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to collaborate and work in an agile and ever-changing start-up environment.
- Alignment to the SEC ways of working and cultural behaviours: unwavering customer focus, striving for continuous improvement, and demonstrating a proactive can-do, attitude in what is a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive and structured approach to identifying and resolving problems for SEC, our counterparties and customers.
Highly Desirable - Experience in negotiating, closing and contract management of renewable PPAs and battery offtakes.
- Experience in structuring and pricing bespoke renewable products for retail C&I customers.
