Your role As
Strategy & Performance Lead, you will be responsible for conducting analysis and Business Unit engagement to drive the SEC’s strategic planning and development. You will work closely with different business units to critically analyse strategic challenges and opportunities and compellingly present insights to further advance the SEC’s strategic direction and drive organisational performance.
The focus of this role will be on working collaboratively with business units to support and facilitate the refresh of the SEC’s Strategic Plan and developing advocacy and thought leadership positions for the SEC. The role will provide a holistic perspective developing strategic options analysis, recommendations and supporting the implementation of business plans. It will also provide expert advice to identify new strategic opportunities and build on the SEC’s strategic plan as the organisation grows and as energy market dynamics evolve.
This role can be based in Melbourne or Morwell. What you will do: Core accountabilities include:
- Strategic advice and leadership – Provide expert advice on the SEC’s strategic direction to the CEO, executive and business units, including facilitating workshops and developing actionable insights.
- Energy market analysis - Conduct research and analysis of the energy market, including on industry trends, the competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities to feed into strategic planning.
- Analytical capability and modelling – Structure and disaggregate broad strategic questions into core drivers, inform the development of financial models with other business units, and identify and communicate implications to the executive and Board to drive decision making.
- Business case development - Guide decision making and develop strategies through detailed business cases and/or investment opportunities and plans which include detail around concepts, costings, performance, ROIs, risks, and other relevant information.
- Strategy implementation and performance – Support the organisation to translate strategy to delivery, including by monitoring organisational performance, identifying risks and problem-solving to remove roadblocks.
Who you are: Must Have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
- Significant experience in similar roles, e.g., management consulting, or in-house strategy teams (of benefit if related to the energy industry) consulting to the electricity industry.
- Bachelor's degree in economics, business, engineering (or related discipline) and/or demonstrated relevant experience.
- Analytical capability to analyse and solve issues in a methodical, accurate and timely manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- A track record of delivering outcomes in challenging and complex policy, regulatory and/or technical environments.
- Ability to proactively navigate ambiguity and uncertainty and adapt to changing circumstances.
Highly Desirable - Deep understanding of the Australian energy markets, especially the NEM.
- Experience in energy market analysis, including market and financial modelling to drive and effectively communicate specific/relevant/useful insights to inform decision making.
