Your role As a
Senior Adviser, Community Engagement at the SEC, you will play a key role in enhancing our relationships and reputation. Working as part of the brand and corporate affairs team, you will provide expert stakeholder engagement advice, collaborating across the organisation to ensure the successful delivery of community engagement initiatives and events.
This role offers an exciting and unique opportunity to apply your skills and make a meaningful contribution to the SEC’s mission and Victoria’s energy transition, by strengthening community connections, and upholding our commitment to positive engagement with all stakeholders.
This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.
What you will do: In this role you will be responsible for:
- Building relationships and reputation
Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including local communities, to enhance and build our relationships and our reputation as a trusted industry partner.
- Community engagement and relationship management
Plan, manage and deliver key stakeholder and community engagement activities, including events, meetings, briefings, in-person and project-specific public engagement, to build and support meaningful connections.
- Advisory and risk management
Provide expert, authoritative advice to the SEC team and our project partners on community and stakeholder engagement strategies, identifying risks and opportunities to enhance project outcomes and benefits.
- Engagement planning and execution
Develop and implement comprehensive stakeholder and community engagement plans for SEC projects and initiatives, ensuring effective execution and accurate engagement records.
- Collaborative communication
Work effectively across SEC business units, with investment partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders to develop and deliver communications that effectively support engagement efforts.
Who you are: Experiences and skills:
Must have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
- Demonstrated experience engaging with community stakeholders for infrastructure projects, energy initiatives, or within government agencies.
- Strong capacity to listen and empathise with community members and to synthesise feedback into clear themes for project stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including experience managing challenging conversations.
- Proven track record of leading and supporting the creation of communications content essential for successful community and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong ability to identify opportunities to acknowledge and address community feedback and mitigate risks to brand and reputation.
- Is flexible and adapts quickly to changed priorities and circumstances.
- A degree in communications, public relations or a related field.
Highly Desirable - Experience working in community and stakeholder engagement in the energy sector.
- Completion of the IAP2 Certificate in Engagement.

The organisation is partnering with industry to transform the energy sector, opening the state up for further innovation and investments in renewables. This includes an initial $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects – the equivalent replacement capacity of coal-fired power station Loy Yang A, which is set to close in 2035.
The SEC will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.
The energy transformation will create thousands of jobs. The SEC will play a role in attracting and training our future renewable energy workforce.
