Your role As the
Senior Adviser, Media and Communications, you will play a pivotal role in supporting media relations and developing high-quality, compelling external communications and content. This includes assisting the Manager, Media and Communications, and the wider brand and corporate affairs team to support the business with a robust pipeline of opportunities, strategic plans and compelling content including announcements, keynote presentations, stakeholder initiatives, and community engagement for the SEC.
You will also collaborate closely with the broader brand and corporate affairs team, providing opportunities to broaden your remit and advance your personal and professional development in a dynamic and supportive environment.
This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.
What you will do In this role you will be responsible for:
- Developing a pipeline of media opportunities:
Support the brand and corporate affairs team in helping inform the public about Victoria’s energy transition, investments in renewable energy and storage, household electrification and future workforce.
- Announcements, project milestones, and public engagement:
Support the brand and corporate affairs team to prepare public and stakeholder information to support major announcements, project milestones and other progress across the SEC’s portfolio.
Support implementation of strategic plans and delivery of high-quality and compelling written content, including speeches, briefs, media releases, forewords, newsletter content, case studies, FAQs and social content.
- Media and issues management:
Support the brand and corporate affairs team to identify and address emerging issues. This includes preparing briefings, backgrounders, developing messages and materials, advising on approaches, and media monitoring.
Who you are Experiences and skills
Must have: Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
- Tertiary qualifications in journalism, public relations or a related field.
- Experience in media, journalism or public relations, including managing proactive and reactive stories with journalists.
- Strong issues management exposure.
- Proven ability to deliver quality outcomes on high-impact projects in a fast-paced, high-performing team environment.
- Experience adhering to tight deadlines with exceptional attention to detail.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, articulate complex technical information, and craft impactful messaging for diverse audiences.
- A responsive and service-driven approach, which balances a focus on defined outcomes with a strong understanding of commercial considerations.
Highly desirable: - Exposure to the energy sector (or other complex industries) and an understanding of energy transition issues.

The organisation is partnering with industry to transform the energy sector, opening the state up for further innovation and investments in renewables. This includes an initial $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects – the equivalent replacement capacity of coal-fired power station Loy Yang A, which is set to close in 2035.
The SEC will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.
