What's the brief?
Our client is one of Australia’s most respected social impact organisations. With a workforce of 1,500 employees and 1,000 volunteers, they partner with government, industry and community to tackle poverty and create a fairer, more inclusive Australia.
You’ll play a pivotal role in leading a high performing team, embedding strategic and operational excellence across both HR Business Partnering and Health, Safety & Wellbeing. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, helping shape workforce capability, drive engagement, and foster an inclusive and psychologically safe culture.
This is a leadership role that blends intellect and empathy, ideal for someone who can move fluidly between the boardroom and the front line, combining commercial realism with human understanding.
The Opportunity Reporting to the Head of HR, you’ll lead a team that partners with leaders across a large, complex organisation. You’ll influence at a system wide level, creating alignment between people strategy, organisational design, and operational delivery.
Your remit is broad and influential including:
- Leading and inspiring a team of HR and HSW professionals to deliver strategic, consistent, and values driven support.
• Proactively identify workforce risks and emerging issues, using data and insight to inform decision making.
• Ensuring the HSW function delivers safe, compliant, and proactive practices across all operations.
• Embedding a safety leadership culture through education, accountability, and modelling best practice.
• Overseeing the implementation of wellbeing and mental health strategies that support staff in high demand, community facing roles. - Partnering with executives and senior leaders to translate organisational strategy into workforce plans and people priorities.
• Building the capability of leaders across the organisation to manage, engage, and develop their people effectively.
• Acting as a change leader, guiding restructures, cultural development, and transformation with empathy and clarity.
• Providing high level advice on complex employee relations matters, performance management, and organisational change.
• Oversee the management of complex health, safety and injury management cases with compassion, fairness, and a focus on recovery and prevention.
About You You’re an experienced leader who thrives in environments where complexity meets purpose. You’re confident operating at both strategic and operational levels, as comfortable advising an executive on workforce strategy as you are supporting your team through a challenging ER issue.
You’re known for your integrity, curiosity, and calm authority. You understand that modern HR leadership requires both backbone and heart, and you bring both.
You’ll bring:
- Leadership experience across HR and Health, Safety & Wellbeing portfolios.
• Strong understanding of industrial relations, employment law, and compliance.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing high performing teams.
• A proven ability to build trusted partnerships with senior leaders and influence organisational outcomes.
• A pragmatic, solutions focused mindset with a strong grasp of systems thinking and organisational dynamics.
• Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with the presence to lead through complexity.
• Tertiary qualifications in HR, business, law, or a related discipline.
