Te āhua o te tūranga | The opportunity
InternetNZ is seeking an exceptional leader to join Te Kāhui Tumu as Manukura.
This newly created executive leadership role sits at the heart of InternetNZ's future. Partnering closely with the Group Chief Executive in a Tier 1.5 role, you will provide strategic leadership to embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi across governance, strategy, operations and organisational culture.
As the custodian of Te Korowai o Ipurangi Aotearoa, you will help shape the future of one of Aotearoa's most influential digital organisations – strengthening relationships with iwi, hapū and Māori communities, advancing Māori aspirations within the .nz ecosystem, and ensuring InternetNZ delivers on its commitment to an equitable and inclusive digital future.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising the InternetNZ and Domain Name Commission Boards on Te Tiriti, tikanga and strategic Māori priorities within the domain name space.
- Leading the activation of Te Korowai o Ipurangi Aotearoa.
- Building trusted partnerships across iwi, hapū, Māori enterprises and Māori technology communities.
- Championing Māori digital sovereignty and indigenous participation in internet governance.
- Growing organisational capability in te reo Māori, tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Representing Māori interests in national and international domain name and internet governance forums.
- Leading Te Rōpū Hāpai-ō and fostering a culturally safe, high-performing organisation.
Ngā tino pūkenga me whai | Essential skills and experience The successful candidate will bring:
- Deep grounding in te ao Māori, tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori and iwi relationships.
- Demonstrated experience translating Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into governance, strategy and organisational practice.
- Proven senior leadership experience.
- Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder engagement capability across Māori, governance, public, private and community sectors.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the confidence to challenge constructively and build consensus.
- An interest in, or understanding of, digital technology, internet governance, digital inclusion, data governance or related sectors.
