We’re partnering with a large, purpose-led organisation in Hamilton to find a hands-on Health & Safety Business Partner. This role will see you coach leaders, lift risk maturity, and help embed a strong reporting and learning culture. You’ll work across a diverse, community-facing environment spanning frontline services, operations and corporate functions, with significant contractor management and a balanced portfolio of higher-risk work. You’ll join a strong H&S business partnering team with excellent support, great systems, and real opportunities for professional development.
  
Te Whai Wāhitanga | The Opportunity

Partner with an allocated portfolio spanning frontline, operational and corporate teams, and be a trusted advisor to leaders at all levels - bringing both practical support and strategic perspective.

Work as a true generalist across the Safety Management System - supporting risk, assurance, engagement and wellbeing initiatives as needed, and backing up your fellow BPs across a varied portfolio.

Support assurance and continuous improvement work, with a mix of BAU partnering and project work.

Be highly visible on sites - building relationships, understanding tasks, and helping teams manage real-world risks (including public-facing challenges).

Success in this role looks like leaders taking greater ownership of risk, stronger quality and follow-through in reporting and investigations, and practical, visible improvements to critical controls across your portfolio.

Work closely with leaders, HR Business Partners and the wider H&S team to support joined-up, practical solutions across your portfolio.

Use reporting, dashboards and on-site conversations to turn insight into action and help lift capability, consistency and follow-through.
  
Ko Wai Koe | About You

• You’ll bring proven experience in a Health & Safety Business Partner, Senior H&S Advisor, or comparable senior partnering role, ideally gained in a large or complex environment.
• Strong working knowledge of HSWA 2015 and relevant codes/standards - able to translate compliance into practical action.
• You enjoy working as a true generalist business partner - comfortable across a broad risk profile (including higher-risk work) and confident engaging in robust, constructive conversations.
• Strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills, with the strategic lens to build credibility, influence decisions, and tailor your approach to different teams and personalities.
• Collaborative, down-to-earth style: you ‘get beside’ people, build trust quickly, and work as a genuine team player who helps others out and contributes positively to the wider BP team.
• A relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (or a closely related discipline) is strongly preferred
