Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

As an Intermediate Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in addressing interesting and complex land and property issues. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide expert legal advice and support across a range of areas, including landlord and tenant matters, general property law, Māori land law, commercial contracts, resource management, legislative and regulatory compliance and dispute resolution. You will also be expected to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

To excel in this role, you will bring:

• A tertiary qualification in law and a current NZ practising certificate (or ability to hold one).
• 4–6 years’ PQE obtained in-house or in private practice, with a strong property law focus.
• Expertise in areas such as landlord and tenant, conveyancing, general property law, Māori land law, trusts, estates, commercial contracts, resource management, legislative and regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, and a proven ability to provide accurate, strategic and solutions-focused legal advice.
• High levels of professionalism, resilience, and integrity.
• Exceptional relationship building and communication skills.
• An understanding and living of Tikanga Māori in day-to-day practices. (An ability to understand and correctly pronounce Te Reo Māori is also a plus).
