Manager | SMSF
Salary: $130,000–$145,000 + superannuation
Location: Brisbane CBD
Work style: Permanent full-time | Hybrid: three days in the office and two days WFH per week

Why This Role
Take responsibility for SMSF delivery, technical quality and team development within an established Queensland advisory and accounting firm.

Working closely with an Associate Director and specialist Partner, this position combines portfolio management, complex review work and regular contact with clients, auditors and internal stakeholders. Accountants based in the Philippines provide preparation support, with your guidance helping strengthen their capability and maintain consistent standards.

The opportunity suits an established SMSF Manager or a capable Supervisor or Assistant Manager ready for broader leadership responsibility. Alongside managing delivery, there is scope to improve workflows, contribute to training and influence how the division operates.

The Role
Lead the delivery of SMSF accounting, taxation and compliance services while remaining involved in technically complex matters.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing an SMSF portfolio and maintaining strong client relationships
• Reviewing financial statements, tax returns, BAS, workpapers and compliance documentation
• Resolving technical matters involving contributions, pensions, investments and fund taxation
• Coordinating audit requirements and responding to external auditor queries
• Providing technical guidance and supporting superannuation tax planning and compliance-related advice
• Allocating work, managing deadlines and reviewing output from Philippines-based accountants
• Coaching team members through clear feedback, technical support and practical training
• Monitoring job progress, budgets, productivity and delivery against agreed fees
• Keeping the Associate Director and Partner informed of significant technical or commercial matters
• Improving systems, workflows and quality controls
• Collaborating with other specialists across the firm to support broader client needs

What You’ll Bring

• At least five years’ Australian SMSF accounting experience
• Manager experience, or strong Supervisor or Assistant Manager capability with readiness to step up
• BGL Simple Fund 360 experience, which is essential
• Strong knowledge of Australian SMSF accounting, taxation and compliance requirements
• Experience reviewing SMSF financial statements, tax returns and supporting documentation
• Confidence managing client relationships and liaising with auditors and advisers
• Experience delegating, reviewing work and developing accountants
• Willingness to manage, train and support the Philippines-based team
• Relevant tertiary qualifications and CA/CPA qualification or substantial progress towards completion
• Clear communication, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities
