Manager | Business Services & Advisory
Salary: $130,000 to $145,000 + superannuation
Location: Brisbane CBD
Work style: Hybrid work available
Why This Role
This is an opportunity for an experienced Business Services Manager to step into a visible leadership role within a prominent mid-tier advisory and accounting firm in Brisbane CBD.
The role will suit someone who is ready to take ownership of a client portfolio, lead people, influence workflows, and work closely with Partners to deliver higher-value client outcomes. You will manage compliance delivery, contribute to advisory work and act as a trusted point of contact for clients who value practical, commercially grounded advice.
This team has a strong agribusiness client base, although the portfolio is not exclusively agricultural. You will also work with a mix of privately owned businesses, individuals, family groups and other client structures.
This is a strong fit for a Manager who enjoys client contact, team development, and the balance between technical quality and commercial thinking.
About Our Client
Our client is a prominent mid-tier advisory and accounting firm with a long history in Queensland.
The firm operates across multiple offices and provides services across accounting, taxation, business advisory, audit, international advisory, investment advisory, insolvency, technology, SMSF, finance, lending, HR and wealth management.
The Brisbane office is based in a modern CBD workplace with contemporary facilities, end-of-trip amenities and a professional team environment.
This is a firm that offers the structure, resources and career clarity of a larger advisory business, while still giving accountants direct access to senior staff and Partners who support their development.
The Role
As a Manager in the Business Services team, you will oversee client work, lead team members, and support the delivery of technically sound, timely, and commercially useful advice.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of clients and acting as a key point of contact
- Overseeing accounting, tax compliance and business advisory work
- Reviewing accounting work across simple and complex client matters
- Providing strategic advice to clients in consultation with Partners
- Supporting tax planning, interim work, FBT matters and ATO communications
- Ensuring client files and documentation are complete, accurate and compliant
- Delegating work effectively to ensure client needs are met
- Guiding workflow, deadlines, priorities and delivery standards across the team
- Coaching, mentoring and developing team members through feedback and on-the-job training
- Supporting performance conversations, productivity expectations and job budgets
- Monitoring job costs against budgeted fees and managing variances with Partners
- Preparing fees for client work
- Contributing to systems, process improvement and transformation initiatives
- Supporting business development through client relationships, referrals and market activity
- Identifying opportunities to expand services across existing client engagements
This is a role where your influence matters. You will be expected to lead delivery, support people, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to the team's broader performance.
What You'll Bring - Australian public practice experience in Business Services
- Current Manager level experience, or strong Assistant Manager experience ready to step up
- CA, CPA or equivalent qualification
- Strong knowledge of Australian tax legislation and accounting standards
- Experience managing client relationships across private business clients
- Confidence reviewing accounting and tax compliance work
- Experience mentoring, coaching or reviewing the work of junior accountants
- Strong communication skills and confidence in client-facing situations
- Ability to manage workflow, deadlines, budgets and competing priorities
- Commercial judgement and the ability to identify value-adding advisory opportunities
- Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or similar
- Collaborative, composed and dependable leadership style
- Ability to balance technical detail with practical execution
Agribusiness client exposure will be viewed favourably, but it is not essential. More important is your ability to communicate well, manage relationships and lead client work with maturity.
