Senior Accountant - Business Services
Salary: $110,000 - $125,000 package
Work style: Permanent full-time | Fully remote role
Why This Role
This is an opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant to join one of Newcastle's leading locally owned accounting and advisory firms in a fully remote role.
The position is suited to someone who is technically strong, self-directed and comfortable working with limited day-to-day supervision. You will work as a senior member of the team, supporting client delivery, reviewing work, assisting with workflow and handling client communication when required.
The firm already has fully remote senior staff in Australia, so this is not an untested arrangement. The role has been structured for someone who can operate confidently from home while still staying connected with the team, clients and leadership group.
This will suit a capable Senior Accountant who values flexibility, enjoys technical review work, and is comfortable being relied upon as a senior point of support within a business services team.
About Our Client
Our client is a large, locally owned accounting and advisory firm based in Newcastle, with a team of around 55 people across accounting, advisory and support functions.
The firm is known for building long-term client relationships, providing practical business advice and maintaining a supportive internal culture. Their client base is heavily business-focused, including SMEs, family groups, trusts, partnerships, and private businesses.
The firm has a strong leadership structure, with Directors, Principals, Managers, Senior Accountants and offshore support working across defined teams. They are also progressive in their use of systems and are actively exploring ways to improve workflows, technology, and automation across the practice.
The Role
As a Senior Accountant, you will work remotely as part of a business services team, supporting a Principal and Manager with client delivery, workflow and review responsibilities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing compliance work, including income tax returns, BAS and smaller entity jobs
- Preparing and overseeing financial statements, tax returns and reporting requirements
- Supporting compliance deadlines across your client portfolio
- Assisting with workflow priorities, job allocation and team coordination
- Acting as a key point of support for junior staff
- Reviewing and coaching junior accountants, with clear and constructive feedback
- Handling client queries by phone and email when required
- Supporting management reporting and broader business services work
- Contributing to advisory and value-add client outcomes where appropriate
- Working closely with the Principal and Manager on ad hoc client and team matters
Because this is a fully remote role, the position is best suited to someone who enjoys senior technical and client support work, rather than someone whose main goal is regular face-to-face advisory meetings.
What You'll Bring - 5+ years of Australian public practice experience in business services
- Strong experience at the Senior Accountant level
- CA or CPA completed, or close to completion
- Strong technical knowledge across tax, compliance and business services
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements, tax returns and BAS
- Confidence reviewing junior work and supporting less experienced accountants
- Ability to manage your own workload in a remote environment
- Confidence speaking with clients by phone and email
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach
- Strong communication skills and professional judgement
- Experience with Xero Practice Manager, FYI Docs or Xero Workpapers will be useful
This role will suit someone who is already comfortable operating at a senior level and does not require close technical supervision to be effective.
What's On Offer - $110,000 - $125,000 package inclusive of superannuation, depending on experience
- Fully remote role within Australia
