Satellite Communications Engineer EL1 | Federal Government Program | Contract
Duration: 12 months Location: ACT (On-site, 5 days per week) Security Clearance: NV1
A major Federal Government division is seeking an experienced Satellite Communications Engineer to support a large Satellite Modernisation Project. This role focuses on the design, implementation and maintenance of satellite communication systems across both legacy GEO platforms and emerging NGSO technologies. You will work closely with architecture, cyber assurance and regional technical teams to ensure secure, resilient and high‑performance satellite connectivity across geographically dispersed sites. Key Responsibilities
Design, implement and maintain satellite communication systems across GEO and NGSO technologies.
Support high‑level design, technical investigations and system optimisation.
Assist in the deployment and maintenance of satellite terminals at remote and international locations.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure secure and reliable satellite services.
Produce high‑quality technical documentation, including HLDs and maintenance plans.
Support high‑availability WAN and satellite‑based connectivity solutions.
Essential Criteria
5+ years’ experience in satellite communications engineering.
Strong RF and microwave systems expertise (design, testing, optimisation).
Experience delivering high‑availability WAN and satellite connectivity across dispersed locations.
Strong technical documentation capability.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Willingness to travel to remote and international locations.
Desirable
Experience in government or defence satellite projects.
Ability to mentor junior engineers or field technicians.
Qualifications in Electronics or Communications Engineering (highly regarded).
