Infrastructure Engineer to deploy, configure, and manage secure ICT environments.

We're seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join a large Federal Government agency in Canberra. This role will play a key part in the deployment, configuration, and management of critical ICT infrastructure supporting a secure and high-performing environment.
You’ll work closely with internal teams and external vendors to design, implement, and optimise infrastructure solutions across physical, virtual, and cloud environments. Key Responsibilities
Deploy, configure, and manage infrastructure components across physical, virtual, and cloud platforms.
Provide technical direction and advice to vendors and internal teams.
Design and configure infrastructure to support key business applications.
Deliver technical leadership and contribute to solution design.
Maintain clear and detailed technical documentation, diagrams, and procedures.
Support knowledge transfer to permanent staff and ensure compliance with agency standards.
Work effectively in a small, high-performing team.
Essential Skills and Experience
Proven experience designing, configuring, and supporting Microsoft Windows-based ICT infrastructure services.
Strong understanding of Active Directory, ADFS, and related Windows Server roles.
Experience managing and troubleshooting Linux environments (Ubuntu / RHEL).
Scripting skills using PowerShell or similar.
Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere and SQL Server (optimisation, upgrades, consolidation).
Familiarity with Dell technologies, including Networker and Isilon for storage and backup.
Demonstrated experience working within Federal Government environments, adhering to strict security and change management processes.
Highly Desirable
Expertise in managing Ubuntu or Red Hat systems (using Satellite).
Experience in infrastructure automation using Ansible or similar tools.
Exposure to containerisation and orchestration technologies.
Experience with security management tools such as WSUS, SCCM, Nessus, Nmap, SELinux, and firewall configuration.
