Central Australia | Black Angus Cattle | Accommodation & Meals Provided | Long-Term Opportunity
An opportunity is available for an Experienced Station Hand / Senior Station Hand to join a family-owned and operated Black Angus cattle station in Central Australia, within the broader Alice Springs region.
We are looking for a capable, practical station hand with genuine cattle experience who can contribute from the outset. This is a smaller family-run operation with a different pace to the large northern cattle stations and would suit someone who enjoys being involved across all aspects of station life.
The position is available to start as soon as the right person comes along. We are happy to consider someone for the remainder of the 2026 season, particularly if there is potential to return for the 2027 season. Long-term or permanent employment is also available for the right person.
For the right person, there is a genuine opportunity for promotion into a more senior role with greater responsibility.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an all-round station position and will include:
- Cattle work, mustering and yard work
- General station duties
- Riding a two-wheel motorbike
- Fencing and maintenance
- Checking and maintaining waters
- General property maintenance
- Working independently when required
- Working alongside a small station team
- Taking responsibility for day-to-day jobs and seeing them through
We are not looking for someone who only wants to muster cattle. The right person will understand that station life also includes fencing, waters, maintenance and the quieter periods between cattle work.
ABOUT YOU Ideally, you will have:
- Genuine cattle and station experience
- Confidence and competence riding a two-wheel motorbike
- A current manual driver's licence
- Experience with cattle work, mustering and yard work
- Practical experience with fencing, waters and general property maintenance
- The ability to work without constant supervision
- A willingness to work as part of a small team
- A reliable and practical approach
- A willingness to take responsibility and become involved in the operation
More than anything, we are looking for the right attitude, capability and fit.
This position may particularly suit an experienced station hand looking for a good long-term fit, or someone who has previously worked on larger, busier properties and would now prefer a smaller family-run operation where they can have more input.
COUPLES WELCOME TO APPLY We are also very open to applications from couples where the right combination of skills and experience is available.
Ideally, both people would bring useful station or rural skills, although we are open to discussing different combinations of experience. Depending on a partner's skills and interests, there may also be opportunities for them to assist in other areas of the station.
The existing staff accommodation is best suited to a single person and may not be suitable for a couple. However, for the right couple, particularly those interested in becoming a longer-term part of the operation, alternative accommodation options can be discussed.
We encourage suitable couples to apply rather than ruling themselves out based on the current accommodation arrangements.
CONDITIONS & LIFESTYLE - Salary dependent on experience and capability
- Accommodation provided
- Meals provided
- Utilities provided
- Wi-Fi provided
- Air-conditioned staff accommodation
- No rent
- Time off and time in lieu managed around the variable demands of livestock work
- No staff dogs, due to existing facilities and station dogs
THE OPPORTUNITY This is a genuine working cattle station with a small team and family environment.
The focus is on finding someone who enjoys the lifestyle, takes ownership of their work and wants to become a valued part of the operation.
Start: When the right person comes along
Location: Central Australia, broader Alice Springs region
Employment: Remainder of the 2026 season, potential return for 2027, or longer-term/permanent for the right person
