$90,000-$100,000 + House + Power | 4,500 Acres | Quality John Deere Machinery
The first suitable person who gets through the interview and drives through the gate will want this job.
And it's easy to see why. Tidy farm, good gear, well-maintained machinery and owners who take genuine pride in how their operation is run.
A well-established 4,500-acre broadacre cropping operation near Moonie, QLD is looking for an experienced operator to step into a hands-on 2IC position.
Growing sorghum, chickpeas and barley, this is a well-run operation with a long-established farming family and a strong history of staff retention.
The owners are actively involved in the farm and want someone who enjoys working as part of a team, but also has the initiative to think ahead, see what needs doing and get on with it. This is very much a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in doing a job properly.
THE ROLE
This is a genuinely hands-on 2IC position. You'll work alongside the owners and be actively involved in the day-to-day farming operation, while also helping to plan ahead and keep things moving.
You'll be involved across the full cropping program, including:
- Helping plan and coordinate day-to-day cropping operations
- Paddock preparation, planting, spraying and harvest
- Broadacre spraying, including camera spraying
- Crop monitoring and identifying weeds, pests, disease and other crop issues
- Operating tractors, cropping equipment and GPS technology
- Coordinating contractors and helping keep seasonal operations on track
- Machinery maintenance, servicing and basic mechanical work
The approach is simple:
work together, get the job done properly and take pride in what you're doing. During planting, spraying and harvest, longer hours and weekend work will sometimes be required.
When the pressure is off, there's more flexibility around hours. Good gear stays good when it’s looked after, and that’s the mindset they’re looking for. The farm runs a
predominantly John Deere tractor fleet with John Deere GPS, including:
- John Deere 8R 250
- John Deere 8345
- John Deere 8530
- Hayes & Baguley 24m 3-point linkage sprayer
- 3-point linkage camera sprayer
- Gessner planter
- 38-tonne chaser bin
- Volvo trucks
Good gear stays good when it's looked after, and that's the mindset they're looking for. WHO THEY'RE LOOKING FOR We're looking for someone with
strong broadacre cropping experience and a sound understanding of cropping operations from paddock preparation through to harvest.
Just as importantly, we're looking for the right attitude. Someone who is
forward-thinking, works well as part of a team and has the initiative to see what needs doing without always needing to be told.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- The ability to assist with crop planning and management, including planting, spraying, fertilising, crop monitoring and harvest operations
- Strong machinery operating skills and experience with GPS and precision ag technology
- Solid spraying experience with sound knowledge of chemical handling, rates and record keeping
- A good understanding of agronomy, crop health and crop inputs
- Good mechanical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to plan around weather, crop conditions, machinery and labour
- Confidence coordinating contractors and working alongside the owners
- Plenty of initiative and the ability to make practical decisions
- A strong commitment to safe work practices and looking after machinery
You don't necessarily need to have
2IC on your resume already. Experience matters, but so does attitude. We're looking for someone who
takes pride in their work, brings a positive attitude to the team, shows initiative and genuinely wants to be part of the operation. If you've got strong Broadacre experience and you're ready to step up, we'd like to hear from you.
